This is a senior systems engineering role on a ground-based radar system spread across several sites and contracts but built as one system.
You will be the technical lead and main coordinator for combined software and hardware systems engineering, working inside the radar, site activation and compute integrated product teams.
The goal is one coherent technical baseline, with systems engineering and configuration management applied consistently at every site and contract segment.
Responsibilities
Lead the technical direction of a multi-site, multi-discipline team, keeping architecture, requirements, design decisions and configuration baselines aligned.
Drive software and hardware systems engineering by decomposing and allocating requirements, keeping them traceable, and preparing each site and contract for SRR, PDR and CDR.
Set and enforce systems engineering practice, covering requirements management, interface definition, verification and validation planning, risk handling and technical performance tracking.
Own configuration management: establish and control technical baselines, identify configuration items, manage change control and status accounting, and keep every software and hardware element ready for audit across all sites.
Guide systems engineering within the radar, site activation and compute teams so processes and the unified baseline stay consistent everywhere.
Gather input from software, hardware, RF, and integration and test experts, feed it into CDRL deliverables, and advise on integration and test for a distributed system.
Turn customer requirements and CONOPS into integrated system requirements for a large multi-site radar, then allocate them to software, hardware and interfaces and manage the changes.
Run functional analysis and system trade studies across the full lifecycle, from concept through sustainment, including multi-site deployment, interoperability and logistics.
Write system and subsystem requirements, interface control documents, and test and verification artifacts covering software, hardware and cross-site integration.
Support integration, test and requirements verification, including hardware-in-the-loop, software integration and end-to-end testing across locations.
Define, track and report technical performance measures for software, hardware and the whole system, and drive cross-site issue resolution and risk mitigation.
Prepare and present material for SRR, SFR, PDR, CDR, SVR, TRR and other reviews, combining inputs from several teams and sites.
Brief internal leaders, external customers and distributed teams on technical content, program status, risks, dependencies and baseline impacts.
Travel minimally when needed to work with multi-site teams and operational locations.
Requirements
Bachelor's in a STEM field plus 8 years of related experience, or a master's in STEM plus 6 years, or a PhD plus 4 years.
U.S. citizenship is required.
An active U.S. Government Secret security clearance at the time you apply, current and within scope.
Proven experience leading systems engineering on ground-based radar or comparable large sensor systems, covering both software and hardware.
Strong skill in requirements development, decomposition, allocation and end-to-end traceability across software and hardware architectures.
Experience as a technical lead or coordinator across several disciplines or geographically spread teams.
Solid use of systems engineering practice: requirements management, verification and validation, risk management and technical performance management.
Proven configuration management on complex systems, including baseline management and formal change control.
Experience running major technical reviews such as SRR, PDR and CDR and producing the related systems engineering artifacts.
Hands-on work in functional analysis, trade studies and lifecycle systems engineering from concept through sustainment.
Experience writing system and subsystem requirements, ICDs, and test and verification plans and procedures for integrated software and hardware.
Experience supporting integration, test and requirements verification, including software and hardware integration and system-level validation.
Ability to define, monitor and report technical performance measures for complex sensor systems.
Experience presenting technical material to internal leaders and external customers.
Ability to work on-site in Colorado Springs, CO.
Preferred: leadership experience within radar, site activation or compute IPTs covering software and hardware.
