Description

The company builds AI hardware and the software that runs on it, and has already designed a high performance RISC-V CPU in-house. The team is growing and is hiring engineers at all levels of seniority.

You will join the Low-Level Kernel (LLK) team and work where software meets AI hardware, building the primitives that AI workloads run on.

LLKs run directly on the instruction set of the company's AI hardware and underpin the software stack above them. Gains at this layer carry across the whole stack.

The role is hybrid and based in Toronto, Canada.

Candidates are assessed for the level that fits them during interviews, and the offer will match that level, which may differ from the level in this posting.

Responsibilities

  • Take complex technical problems from design through implementation and optimization.
  • Work closely with engineers on the LLK, hardware, runtime and operations teams.
  • Design and build low-level kernels and software primitives that show what the AI hardware can do.
  • Lead performance optimization work, from profiling and finding bottlenecks through to implementation and validation.
  • Build software that lets models be brought up and run efficiently on the hardware.
  • Work with the LLK subteams for performance, tools, compute and architecture bring-up, along with hardware and runtime teams.
  • Raise the quality, performance and capabilities of the low-level software stack.

Requirements

  • Significant experience writing C or C++ for low-level, performance-critical software.
  • A solid grasp of computer architecture and how software maps onto hardware.
  • Ability to dig into complex performance and systems problems and carry them to a solution.
  • Comfort working close to the hardware and weighing performance, correctness and maintainability when making trade-offs.
  • Ability to collaborate across software and hardware teams and to shape technical decisions.

Conditions

Hybrid role based in Toronto, Canada.

Compensation for engineers at the company ranges from $100k to $500k, covering base pay and variable pay targets. Experience, skills, education, background and location all affect the final offer.

The offer depends on your eligibility to access U.S. export-controlled technology under the U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR), including the country group restrictions D:1, E1 and E2. Depending on your citizenship or permanent residency, the offer may require a license from the U.S. Commerce Department or another federal agency. If U.S. export law rules out employment, the offer will be withdrawn.

The company is an equal opportunity employer.

Benefits

  • A highly competitive compensation package and benefits.
