Description

The Lead Systems Engineer, MCA role sits with a team of engineers who build software for the company's growing fleet of locomotives running MCA-based control systems.

The Freight Services Division maintains locomotives for the country's largest freight railroads so they keep running at peak levels.

The Fleet Innovation & Transformation team speeds up fleet change by delivering solutions and technologies that raise reliability, sustainability and performance.

The company is a global supplier of equipment, systems, digital solutions and value-added services for freight and transit rail, with over 150 years in the field and about 30,000 employees worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Run internal subsystem and system validation.
  • Provide primary support for installing software on customer locomotives, both in the factory and in the field.
  • Make sure system and subsystem validation plans and tests match the requirements and scope.
  • Guide the software so the product beats customer expectations, with as little disruption to customers and as little support from the company as possible.
  • Define the scope of each MCA revision or release, including requirements, documentation updates, design review planning, and verification and validation plans.
  • Oversee the full MCA release process from start to finish, confirming system requirements are met through validation testing.
  • Identify risks and build mitigation plans that bring them to acceptable levels before release.
  • Report program and project progress to every level of the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Detailed knowledge of MCA control systems, including software development and release processes.
  • 5+ years of locomotive systems engineering, including work on New Product Development, Requisition, and Installed Base product support.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve product problems under high pressure.
  • Ability to estimate engineering effort for defined tasks.
  • High level of integrity.
  • Track record of leading and motivating technical people with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Proven ability to build stronger teams, improve effectiveness and widen responsibilities.
  • Project or program management experience.
  • Ability to juggle several priorities and drive projects to completion through key milestones.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Desired: Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
