Description

The role is a network engineer position that designs, deploys, manages and troubleshoots complex network infrastructure for a varied group of business clients through a managed services provider model.

It calls for experience across multiple tenants, quick problem-solving in different environments, and strong client-facing communication.

You will be the technical escalation point for the team and lead network architecture projects, with a focus on high availability and security for clients.

This role has no supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design, configure and deploy scalable LAN, WAN, WLAN and cloud network architectures suited to each client's needs.
  • Support, monitor and optimise networks for clients across several vendor platforms, such as Cisco, Meraki, Fortinet, Aruba and Palo Alto.
  • Act as the Tier 2 or Tier 3 escalation point for complex outages, routing faults, performance bottlenecks and security incidents.
  • Use RMM, PSA and network documentation tools to keep visibility, track SLAs and automate routine operational work.
  • Run network discovery assessments for prospective and new MSP clients, map existing topologies, identify security and operational risks, and build remediation roadmaps.
  • Explain technical topics clearly to both technical and non-technical client stakeholders.
  • Work with ISPs and hardware vendors to resolve service issues and manage RMA processes.
  • Configure and enforce network security practices, including firewall policies, IPsec and SSL VPNs, micro-segmentation, zero-trust network access and compliance standards such as SOC 2, HIPAA and PCI-DSS.
  • Support the company's mission and values through your day-to-day conduct.
  • Keep a working knowledge of relevant federal, state and local laws and company policies, and act honestly, ethically and professionally.
  • Deliver service that meets customer service expectations.

Requirements

  • Be able to perform each essential duty to a satisfactory standard.
  • A bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, information technology, business or a related field is required, or an equivalent mix of education and relevant experience.
  • At least 4 years of hands-on work as a network engineer, including at least 2 years in a managed services provider or multi-client consulting setting.
  • A deep understanding of BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, STP, VLANs, VXLAN, LACP, IPv4, IPv6 and QoS.
  • Proven experience with enterprise hardware from several platforms, such as Cisco/Meraki, Fortinet, Palo Alto, HPE Aruba and Ubiquiti.
  • Advanced hands-on experience with next-generation firewalls, site-to-site IPsec VPN tunnels, remote-access VPNs and Network Access Control.
  • Experience with MSP tools such as ConnectWise, Autotask, Auvik, Datto, LogicMonitor, IT Glue or Hudu.
  • Active industry certifications such as CCNP (Enterprise or Security), Fortinet NSE 4 or higher, Palo Alto PCNSA or PCNSE, or Aruba Certified Switching Professional.
  • Strong time management, the ability to rank tasks across competing client emergencies, and excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Hands-on experience configuring cloud networking constructs such as AWS VPC, Azure Virtual WAN and ExpressRoute or Direct Connect.
  • Experience deploying and supporting SD-WAN solutions such as Fortinet SD-WAN, Cisco SD-WAN, Versa or Velocloud.
  • Basic scripting skills in Python, Bash, PowerShell or Ansible for network management and provisioning.
