Description

The space systems group of the company is hiring a Systems Engineer at Level 4 for its Redondo Beach, CA location.

You will work in a scrum group with peers from both software and systems disciplines. The group sets the product direction, manages the backlog, and checks that each feature supports business goals.

The job centres on mission software for satellite ground systems. You will need space domain knowledge and must be able to work in an Agile setting using the Atlassian tools.

You will define the requirements, interfaces, processes, use cases, protocols, schemas and interaction sequences that shape the software design for ground segment functions. You will be expected to work with little oversight in a changing environment and to report progress to leads and the customer.

Responsibilities

  • Drive feature development and delivery for the satellite ground systems domain, reading CAMEO and MBSE models.
  • Join working groups, learn what customers and interfaces need, and turn those needs into digital artifacts that software teams can build from.
  • Support and, where needed, lead verification planning, test requirements and other key products.
  • Cover systems engineering work across requirements and verification, interfaces, architecture, design, integration, test and sell-off.
  • Take part in sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives and reviews while keeping work aligned with the product vision and mission goals.
  • Act as subject matter expert for space vehicle command and control, and work with unit-level engineers on subsystems.
  • Give demos and briefings to customers and senior leaders.
  • Make sure capabilities, epics and features integrate cleanly with ground satellite software.
  • Use Jira dashboards and Confluence knowledge bases.
  • Support and, where needed, lead milestones and Agile product increments.
  • Work with several working groups and control boards.
  • The exact scope can be shaped around the skills and experience of the person hired.

Requirements

  • A STEM bachelor's degree with 8+ years of engineering experience, or a STEM master's degree with 6+ years, or a STEM PhD with 4+ years.
  • An active SCI at the time you apply and on your start date.
  • 2+ years building and reviewing behavioural and structural architecture diagrams with MBSE methods and tools or equivalent.
  • 2+ years using No Magic Cameo or an equivalent tool.
  • Experience with space vehicle, command and control, mission management, mission data processing or software subsystems.
  • Clear written and spoken communication, shown through requirements and test and evaluation criteria.
  • 2+ years developing systems engineering processes and artifacts for software work, such as use cases, interface control documents, class and sequence diagrams, database design, schema development and protocols like REST, HTTP and RESP, or equivalent.
  • Experience on Agile programmes and with Agile methods.
  • Preferred: 3+ years with command and control, network management, flight dynamics and/or orbit determination for space vehicle software.
  • Preferred: experience with space vehicle subsystems such as thermal, power, attitude control, propulsion and/or communications.
  • Preferred: familiarity with cloud architectures such as Kubernetes, containers and orchestrators.
  • Preferred: experience with mission-focused threads.
  • Preferred: experience across the software development lifecycle.
  • Preferred: experience with JIRA and Confluence.
  • Preferred: experience working with a geographically spread team.
  • Preferred: experience with automated test and integration frameworks, including Playwright.
