Description

The company's defense engines unit supplies combat and trainer engines, rotorcraft and turboprop engines, tanker and transport engines, and marine gas turbines to the U.S. Armed Forces and allied nations. It also designs, builds and supports around 30,000 engines in the field.

The team writes the control logic and software that tie an engine's subsystems into one machine. That machine must respond to pilot inputs while delivering safe, fuel-efficient thrust, and the same logic supplies diagnostic and prognostic data for customer fleets.

The work covers new engine control strategies for military programs, from design through validation and certification, along with fielded engines, where you investigate field events and evaluate fixes for more robust, reliable operation.

The team is looking for people who enjoy combining hardware and software into complete solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and test advanced controls systems technology that meets business standards and program and product requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership on your assigned project.
  • Coordinate closely with supporting and enabling groups to deliver a well-integrated solution.
  • Manage internal and external suppliers.
  • Prepare and present technical data to internal and external customers, and take part as presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews.
  • Record and share technical results and engineering information, keeping documentation consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
  • Track project progress, and report on resource needs, spending and progress toward deliverables.
  • Raise significant issues and developments quickly.
  • Contribute to organization-wide initiatives alongside your team.
  • Mentor engineers in controls systems and transient design.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited university or college.
  • At least 3 years of experience in aircraft engine controls systems, software engineering, or both.
  • Ability to maintain a U.S. Government security clearance. U.S. citizenship is a prerequisite, and candidates who already hold a U.S. Government clearance are given preference.
  • Preferred: an active Secret U.S. government security clearance.
  • Preferred: initiative to explore alternative technologies and approaches to problems.
  • Preferred: skill at breaking problems down, writing problem statements and estimating effort.
  • Preferred: awareness of competitors and industry trends.
  • Preferred: ability to assess the impact of technology choices.
  • Preferred: familiarity with MATLAB, Simulink, Python or NPSS, and familiarity with or willingness to learn BEACON.
  • Preferred: comfort working collaboratively in a structured team.
  • Preferred: drive to develop aircraft engine controls methods, covering hardware and software integration, requirements, logic design, validation, and support for the product software release process.
  • Preferred: ability to own small and medium tasks to completion while mentoring teammates.
  • Preferred: clear communication of issues and rationale, two-way dialogue to influence outcomes, and win-win solutions.
  • Preferred: spotting gaps between goals, work direction and organizational strategy, and proposing corrections.
  • Preferred: tracking your own and your team's output against schedule commitments while balancing competing priorities.
