Description

The company builds the operating system for its Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) product line, the embedded software that runs on aircraft engine hardware. The Lead Engineer owns how that operating system is defined, built and maintained.

The role calls for hands-on depth in designing, implementing and testing open and closed loop embedded software for engine products. You will work with internal teams and outside suppliers to settle the right functions for customers.

Responsibilities

  • Write operating system requirements with application software experts, control title holders, engine systems and the FADEC technical strategist so it supports how the FADEC is meant to run.
  • Build and revise software in an agile setting using current development tools and infrastructure.
  • Set the schedule for the operating system's functions across product line programs.
  • Work with suppliers on design reviews and confirm delivered systems meet product line qualification expectations.
  • Test and validate FADEC hardware and software against performance, safety and regulatory standards.
  • Review engine test data to find performance problems, then work with application software, hardware and supplier experts on root causes and fixes.
  • Propose ways to raise efficiency across teams by removing duplicated work and reusing products and technology.
  • Write technical documents such as design specifications, test plans and reports.
  • Work with mechanical, electrical and software engineers to integrate control systems and embedded software with other engine components.
  • Lead FLIGHT DECK (Lean) initiatives that improve system performance, reliability and software quality.
  • Communicate significant issues and developments promptly.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (science, technology, engineering or math).
  • 3+ years of experience in software, computer, electrical or systems engineering.
  • Ability to maintain a U.S. Government security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Candidates who already hold one are given priority.
  • Preferred: current U.S. Government security clearance.
  • Preferred: 6+ years of experience in embedded software engineering.
  • Preferred: embedded software experience in C/C++, Python and MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Preferred: drive to explore other technologies and approaches to problems.
  • Preferred: skill at breaking problems down, writing problem statements, estimating effort and judging the impact of technology choices.
  • Preferred: awareness of competitors and industry trends.
  • Preferred: can confirm understanding, explain reasoning clearly and balance mutual needs and competing objectives toward win-win outcomes.
  • Preferred: notices when goals, objectives or work direction drift from organizational strategy and suggests corrections.
  • Preferred: tracks own and team deliverables against scheduled commitments.
  • Preferred: persistent and positive when facing long odds or setbacks.
  • Preferred: works with minimal supervision and delegates well.
  • Preferred: experience mentoring team members.
