Description

The role sits on a market-leading industrial AI product that helps organisations measure, disclose and reduce their emissions as part of decarbonisation.

The product goes beyond static sustainability reporting and gives operational, decision-grade intelligence built into daily business running.

The platform covers end-to-end carbon intelligence across Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, a scalable and actionable decarbonisation path for complex industrial sites, and near real-time insights for operational and strategic decisions.

This is a starting point for a wider AI-driven product portfolio, so the work can extend across products, domains and technologies over time.

The team expects a hands-on engineer who works across several general-purpose languages and frameworks, including Go and React, and keeps learning as technology and product needs change.

Recruitment text describing the company: it has over 7000 employees and more than $1 billion in revenue, and its AI technology underpins its enterprise software.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design, architecture and build of scalable APIs, services and accessible user interfaces.
  • Move legacy systems toward modular, event-driven, API-first components.
  • Build AI-native features across front end and back end, using whichever languages the work needs.
  • Give technical direction and make sound trade-offs on scalability, maintainability, performance and product impact.
  • Own reliability and operations: telemetry, SLOs, error budgets, on-call rotations, incident response and ongoing service improvement.
  • Drive DevOps practice, including CI/CD, deployment automation, monitoring and application-level operations.
  • Work with the Platform Engineering shared service while owning application-level DevOps within the team.
  • Mentor engineers and set engineering practice to raise the team's technical bar.
  • Own the quality of what ships, covering test automation, continuous improvement and production readiness, and champion code quality, documentation, performance, security and maintainability.
  • Work closely with Product Management, Design, AI, Platform Engineering and other engineering teams on discovery, trade-offs and delivery.
  • Solve customer pain points with scalable engineering, keeping the customer and product outcome in view.
  • Spot technical risks, performance bottlenecks and chances to improve architecture and ways of working.

Requirements

  • Essential: strong full stack experience, with proven work on both front end and back end.
  • Essential: solid experience with React or a similar modern front-end framework.
  • Essential: strong back-end experience, ideally with Go or a comparable general-purpose language.
  • Essential: experience designing and building scalable APIs, services and cloud-native applications.
  • Essential: strong grasp of DevOps practice, covering CI/CD, deployment, monitoring, automation and incident response.
  • Essential: experience delivering secure, observable, high-quality production software.
  • Essential: strong focus on code quality, automated testing, documentation, performance and maintainability.
  • Essential: ability to lead technical design discussions and shape architectural decisions.
  • Essential: good collaboration and communication across Product, Design, Platform and Engineering.
  • Essential: ownership mindset, taking accountability for outcomes from design through to production.
  • Desirable: experience with Azure, AWS or GCP.
  • Desirable: experience with event-driven architectures, distributed systems or microservices.
  • Desirable: experience modernising legacy systems into modular, scalable platforms.
  • Desirable: experience in cross-functional product teams.
  • Desirable: experience mentoring engineers or contributing to engineering standards.
  • Desirable: experience with AI-enabled, data-intensive, sustainability, carbon intelligence or enterprise SaaS products.
  • Desirable: familiarity with observability, reliability engineering, SLOs, error budgets and production incident management.
  • The team wants a senior engineer who pairs hands-on building with technical leadership, comfortable across the stack, making architecture calls, improving practice and shaping how products are designed, delivered and run.
  • Success here suits someone who enjoys hard customer problems, cloud-native systems, cross-discipline work and shipping software with real-world impact.
