Lead Software Engineer - C++

This role sits in the FX group, within the Workflows Engineering team. You will help set the technical direction for a set of engineering products and take on hard, new problems as they come up.

Responsibilities

• Act as the subject matter expert, advising on design, development and implementation.
• Write high-quality code and build tooling to a high standard.
• Own your workload and help keep the team open and inclusive.
• Be the go-to contact for your domain, understanding dependencies across other domains.
• Link your work to the technology and domain strategy, help deliver it, and shape that strategy where it matters.
• Learn the market and the company's commercial position.
• Lead projects on your own, delegating where needed and supporting the team's delivery.
• Work with architects to define and build solutions.
• Lead design and planning for epics, splitting them into stories with product and QA.
• Apply and adapt engineering patterns to make solutions robust.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Explain complex technical ideas clearly to different audiences.
• Keep building your technical and industry knowledge, such as through certifications and qualifications.

Requirements

• Strong C++ programming skills.
• Experience with at least three of the following: REST or WebSocket, Kafka for event-driven messaging, SQL on Oracle or SQL Server, Redis, Azure PaaS services such as Event Hub, Azure SQL, Kubernetes and Azure Cache, Terraform or Helm, or GitLab CI, or their AWS equivalents.
• A consistent record of delivering software, backed by industry expertise shown through certifications or professional qualifications.
• Optional, desirable: experience with or familiarity with financial messaging protocols, particularly FIX.

Conditions

Occasional out-of-hours work may be requested, including overnight, weekends and Bank Holidays, along with on-call technical support.
