The company is a vertical software and insurance platform that helps homebuyers move into, maintain and protect their homes, with homeowners insurance at the core.
Its home services software is used by about 30 thousand businesses in the home-buying process, including home inspectors, mortgage lenders and title companies.
The company has been listed on Nasdaq under the ticker PRCH since 2020.
The insurance business is being built as an AI-first home insurance operation. This role leads the engineering group behind policy administration, underwriting, agent and consumer experiences, and regulatory capabilities.
You will guide the rollout of the new policy administration system and launch features that change how agents, consumers and partners are served, while the team keeps shipping quickly in a regulated setting.
AI is central to the role. You will set how engineers design, build, test and ship with AI tools and agents, and you will show measurable gains in speed, quality and cost. You will decide where AI fits in the platform, how it is governed in a regulated industry, and how the team builds the skills to use it well.
The role sits in the Insurance Division and shapes how the company offers advantaged underwriting and strong service to homeowners.
Responsibilities
Set the engineering strategy and roadmap for the insurance platform, turning advantaged underwriting and homeowner service goals into a multi-year plan agreed with Product, Finance, Design and the wider business.
Lead delivery of the new policy administration system and the core platform around it, covering rating, underwriting, billing, and agent and consumer portals, on schedule and without disrupting the in-force book.
Make AI-led engineering the norm by placing AI coding, testing and review agents in every team's daily work, and track their effect on cycle time, quality and cost.
Bring AI into the product from underwriting and quoting through servicing and agent tools, and define the rules for model governance, explainability and auditability.
Create concise, end-to-end processes for planning, estimation, release, testing and compliance controls on each major workstream, and make sure teams follow them every day.
Build compliance into the platform so it meets NAIC, SEC and state requirements without slowing delivery or hurting the customer experience.
Define KPIs for delivery speed, reliability, quality and business value, and hold the organization accountable for them.
Hire, coach and develop engineering managers and senior engineers across the US, South America and India, and foster ownership, learning and sensible risk-taking.
Oversee vendors and partners to get results, and make sound build-or-buy decisions.
Represent engineering with executives, reinsurance partners and regulators, explaining business results in technical terms.
Requirements
12+ years in software engineering, including 8+ years leading engineering teams and managers, with a track record of shipping quickly.
Experience leading about 20+ people across several product teams and locations, including distributed or offshore teams.
Experience building a core insurance platform, such as policy administration, rating, underwriting, billing or claims, from architecture through production, including integration with legacy and third-party systems.
Sound technical judgment in cloud-native architecture and systems integration, with the ability to hold your own in design reviews and coach others.
Experience building and running a team where AI is central to designing, writing, testing and shipping software, such as AI-assisted development, agentic workflows and LLM-powered features, with measurable gains in throughput or quality.
Experience managing vendor relationships and working across Product, Data Science and Operations.
Strong attention to detail and process discipline. You know your programs in depth, test estimates and plans before leadership sees them, close open items without being chased, and catch risks in testing, compliance and dependencies early.
Clear written and verbal communication, with the ability to influence senior leaders.
Familiarity with ICFR and Sarbanes-Oxley, and with multi-state, multi-product insurance compliance.
A BS or BA in computer science, engineering or a related field. An MBA or other graduate degree is a plus.
Preferred: experience in home or property insurance, insurtech, or another regulated, data-heavy domain such as fintech, healthcare or marketplaces.
Preferred: previous startup or high-growth experience.
