Senior Backend Engineer - Content Platform

Description

The company shapes the consumer experience across every screen, platform and partner integration, from mobile and desktop apps to smart speakers, TVs, cars and third-party products, with a focus on clear, intuitive and personal design.

The team runs music content ingestion, the path by which music from labels, distributors and other partners reaches the platform. It accepts standard industry deliveries, checks them, and converts them into catalog data used across the company, including lyrics, rights and supply data.

As new content types and partners arrive, the team is building an ingestion platform that can take on new sources without a bespoke build each time.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate the backend services and data pipelines that receive, validate and process partner deliveries of audio, metadata, lyrics and new content types
• Take ownership of large parts of the ingestion pipeline and lead the technical work for video, richer partner data and other new content
• Improve pipeline reliability, catch data quality issues as data enters, and strengthen the operational tooling around it
• Design and evolve APIs and schemas that other teams depend on, keeping them stable and backward compatible
• Move validation toward real time processing and turn the internal ingestion platform into a well-documented, self-serve system
• Deliver roadmap items, contribute to planning, review code and join the on-call rotation
• Collaborate with Content Ops, operations tooling, partner teams and the product teams that use the content

Requirements

• Strong experience building and running backend services and data pipelines in production at scale, ideally in Java, Scala or Go
• Experience designing APIs and managing schema changes and backward compatibility where other teams rely on fixed contracts
• Ability to model data for auditability, versioning and efficient queries, with a clear view of the trade-offs between real-time and batch processing
• Ability to lead projects from discovery through handover, make sound technical decisions and mentor others
• Helpful but optional: experience with content ingestion, metadata standards such as DDEX, B2B partner integrations, rights or compliance-sensitive data, lyrics or time-synced data, or GCP

Conditions

The role is based in London or Stockholm.

Work location is flexible, with some in-person meetings and the option to work from home.
