Description

The Power Performance team in the company's wind engineering group is looking for an engineer who works on both power curve testing and system-level power performance simulation. The role links contractual and validation field tests with integrated power curve models, using inputs from aerodynamics, electrical, controls and other subsystems.

You will work independently on set deliverables, join technical reviews, and coordinate with teams across functions. You report to the Power Performance Leader in Wind Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Run power curve simulations following the team's design practice, and validate and verify models, with guidance where needed.
  • Support technical and design reviews and the commercial release process.
  • Judge how atmospheric conditions and test data affect simulation accuracy and precision, and propose improvements.
  • Apply IEC test standards and company test requirements, choosing suitable power curve test methods, including site calibration.
  • Carry out contractual power performance tests from planning through final report, working within a wider test program with limited guidance.
  • Analyze power curve test data against contract terms on MPPT, terrain assessment and risk-of-failing calculations.
  • Help with root cause analysis of field performance anomalies.
  • Explain how turbine controls and operability shape the way a turbine sets its operation.
  • Maintain and improve analysis tools in MATLAB and Python.
  • Contribute to lessons learned, best practices and standard engineering workflows.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.
  • 3+ years of engineering experience.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of your time.
  • Desired: experience with IEC-based power curve testing or power curve simulation for wind energy.
  • Desired: background in fluid mechanics and/or atmospheric science.
  • Desired: experience with analysis tools such as MATLAB or Python.
  • Desired: clear oral and written communication, with the ability to present technical findings and back recommendations with data.
  • Desired: ability to work well in a collaborative, global team spanning functions.
  • Desired: background in systems engineering or system simulation.
  • Desired: familiarity with IEC standards and industry best practices for wind turbine performance testing.

Conditions

Only candidates legally authorized to work in the United States will be employed for this opening.

Any offer is conditional on passing a drug screen, where applicable.

Relocation assistance is not provided.

For U.S.-based roles, the salary range is $89,300.00 to $148,700.00.
