Description

You will join the CAD/CAM team and help the factory ramp up volume and standardize its processes.

The shop runs custom 10-ton multi-function grinders, large 5-axis mills, and VTLs and VBMs up to 2.5m.

Programming uses Siemens NX, with Vericut and Siemens Run My Virtual Machine for digital twin work and 100% simulation coverage.

Diagnostics and automation include Closed-Loop Machining (CLM), custom Renishaw probing routines, Caron Engineering TMaC, and modal analysis (tap testing) hardware and software.

Responsibilities

  • Design and tune high-efficiency CNC programs for complex multi-axis setups that cut high-temperature superalloys such as Inconel, Rene and exotic nickels.
  • Check code and toolpaths in Vericut's virtual environment before anything reaches the shop floor.
  • Build adaptive probing routines, macros and closed-loop machining processes so complex setups run smoothly and predictably.
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineers and shop-floor teams to commission new machine tools worth millions of dollars and set baseline machining standards.
  • Mentor and support people on the floor by troubleshooting setups, proving out first-piece parts and sharing what you know.
  • Program and support large VTLs, VBMs, 5-axis mills and multi-purpose turn/grind machines up to 2.5m.
  • Generate and maintain CNC programs in NX-CAM or other software, covering multi-axis milling, turning, grinding and/or EDM.
  • Create programs that follow standards and qualified machining parameters.
  • Support Manufacturing Engineers on CNC work and train operators during new or rebuilt machine startups and process changes.
  • Give operators daily help with CNC programming and troubleshooting.
  • Support and implement tooling and fixturing needs for CNC machine tools.
  • Write and maintain workstation instructions (methods) for CNC issues.
  • Start and lead process improvement projects aimed at safety, quality, cost and delivery.
  • Communicate clearly with the right team members when needed.
  • Work alone and in teams within a matrixed organization, stay productive in a fast-paced setting, and drive positive change inside and outside the organization where appropriate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, associate's degree, or machinist apprenticeship (or similar) with 3 years of CNC programming experience in a graphical CAM system, or a high school diploma with 6 years of the same experience.
  • Standout: 5-axis CNC programming in a CAM system, preferably NX.
  • Standout: at least 1 year with high-level machine controls, including subroutines (macros), Renishaw probing routines, variable-based programming and CLM.
  • Standout: a strong hands-on machinist background, with the ability to set up and prove out complex first-piece programs yourself.
  • Standout: a record of holding tight tolerances on large-format equipment (VTLs, VBMs and similar up to 2.5m), where part deflection, work hardening and thermal stability matter most.
  • Standout: extensive machining of nickel-based superalloys such as Inconel, Rene and Hastelloy, including high-temperature superalloys in heavy duty gas turbine (HDGT) or aerospace components.
  • Standout: strong problem-solving and organization skills, with above-average shop math in geometry and trigonometry.
  • Standout: experience with Vericut (preferred) or other CNC verification and machine simulation software.
  • Standout: strong familiarity with multiple machine controls, including Fanuc, Haas, Okuma and Siemens.
  • Standout: proven ability to read and interpret drawing requirements.
  • Standout: ability to multitask and manage several projects at the same time.
