Full-stack Engineer 4

Description

The role sits in the Digital Commerce & Innovation team, which builds spend experiences that carry major revenue and help millions of customers manage daily money. The work covers features such as smart merchant updates and card-on-file management, aimed at keeping payments moving during account updates.

The full-stack team works with high autonomy on a modern stack centred on Python, Java and AWS serverless technology. The setting is small, close-knit and fast moving, and the role has direct influence over important financial tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead a set of varied technology projects and a group of developers who have deep experience with distributed microservices and full-stack systems, building solutions that address the company's regulatory obligations.
• Work with digital product managers to deliver resilient cloud-based solutions that give millions of Americans better tools for managing their finances.
• Set standards for design, development and operations across Agile teams, and give technical direction.
• Work with architects on service boundaries, integration patterns and reusable frameworks.
• Spot areas to improve, refactor where needed, and help reduce technical debt and raise system performance.
• Shape long-term technology strategy by assessing new tools and practices, within a model where teams build and run what they create.
• Stay current with technology trends, try and learn new tools, take part in internal and external communities, and mentor other engineers.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related quantitative field such as statistics, economics, operations research, analytics, mathematics or engineering.
• At least 4 years of software engineering experience. Internships do not count.
• At least 2 years of experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP or Azure), cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies.
• Preferred: a master's degree in computer science or a related field.
• Preferred: 7+ years of coding experience in more than two of Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Rust, C and Scala.
• Preferred: 3+ years working with databases and database management systems.
• Preferred: 3+ years with AWS, GCP, Azure, cloud-based productivity tools or virtualization technologies.
• Preferred: 4+ years contributing to open source frameworks.
• Preferred: 3+ years with front-end JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks.
• Preferred: 4+ years creating synchronous and asynchronous APIs.
• Preferred: 3+ years with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code and automated testing frameworks.
• Preferred: 3+ years using Git-based version control such as Git, GitHub or Bitbucket.
• Preferred: 3+ years troubleshooting technical issues in cloud environments.
• Preferred: experience with modern AI-based coding tools and IDE copilots.
• Preferred: 1+ year mentoring engineers and supporting their professional growth.
• Preferred: 1+ year using observability to find and fix performance bottlenecks in distributed systems.
• Preferred: experience with interactive AI tools that go well beyond basic code completion.
• Preferred: experience leading cross-functional engineering efforts or large technical initiatives.
• Preferred: experience setting and enforcing coding standards and design patterns across teams.

Conditions

Base pay for full-time hires in McLean, VA is $197,300 to $225,100 a year. Part-time pay is prorated to the agreed hours. Pay in other locations follows that location's range, and the exact salary appears in the offer letter.

The role may earn performance-based incentive pay, which can include cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives (LTI). Incentives may be discretionary or non-discretionary, depending on the plan.
