Description

Power plants depend on uptime, so the monitoring and protection systems behind them must be built correctly from the start.

As a field systems engineer on the monitoring and diagnostics order-to-remittance project team, you will be the technical lead for installing the infrastructure that monitors gas power assets, handling the work from design through on-site hardware installation to commissioning.

The role suits someone who works well on site, stays steady under pressure, and enjoys getting complex systems running correctly on the first attempt.

The team builds the monitoring infrastructure for gas power assets.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver each project technically: design the solution, plan site integration, and install servers, peripheral devices and network equipment on site for monitoring and diagnostics platform deployments.
  • Act as the main technical contact for customers and internal teams during deployments, leading real-time troubleshooting and confirming designs meet relevant industry standards and company standards.
  • Prepare bills of materials, site-specific design documents and installation plans, update mechanical drawings, and raise material requisitions that match technical specifications and timelines.
  • Run several customer deployments at once across locations, time zones and internal teams, applying sound monitoring and control practices to keep quality high.
  • Travel to customer sites, domestically and internationally, for roughly 30-50% of your time to install, commission, troubleshoot and test systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology or a related field.
  • At least 3 years in IT or engineering, including hands-on field installation of network equipment such as servers, routers, firewalls and switches, plus familiarity with industrial control systems.
  • Proficiency in Windows and Linux, and working knowledge of SCADA and DCS protocols including Modbus, OPC (OLE for Process Control), TCP/IP and serial communication.
  • Ability to manage several projects at once using structured monitoring and quality control.
  • Able to work independently in a highly matrixed, global organization spanning sites, functions and time zones.
  • Willing and able to travel domestically and internationally within the Americas as required, about 30-50% per year.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Visio, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Preferred: experience deploying network or cybersecurity equipment, ideally in NERC CIP (North American Electric Reliability Corporation Critical Infrastructure Protection) regulated environments.
  • Preferred: familiarity with virtual machine environments such as VMware and Hyper-V, and with industrial server infrastructure including firewalls, network switches and cybersecurity hardware.
  • Preferred: experience with Balance of Plant or DCS integrations using SCADA and DCS protocols such as OPC UA-DA.
  • Preferred: background in power generation, with exposure to sensing technologies such as vibration sensors, combustion dynamics monitoring or generator health systems.
  • Preferred: Lean, or Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification, or equivalent process improvement experience.
