You would lead an engineering team that builds high-throughput, mission-critical communication channels for email, SMS, WhatsApp and other channels, along with the public website.
The role is based in the London office on a hybrid basis.
Responsibilities
Coach engineers with specific feedback, clear growth paths and performance management.
Turn unclear business goals into clear roadmaps, sequence the work, manage risk and deliver steadily at a sustainable pace.
Lead architecture and design reviews for high-scale, event-driven transactional systems on AWS and BigQuery.
Work closely with Product, Design and business domains to shape customer solutions and guide strategic trade-offs.
Keep production stable, manage on-call loads fairly, and maintain testing standards, CI/CD and strong observability.
Bring AI tools into development workflows safely, while staying fully responsible for the code you ship.
Own client outcomes end to end, covering the experience, APIs, data and iteration, with trust and autonomy.
Stay close to the code early on through pairing, reviews and shipping, then shift your focus to people and systems as the team grows.
Build scalable, reusable platforms rather than one-off solutions, and value retiring technical debt and feature flags as much as shipping features.
Guide the team on effective AI adoption and help design AI into the product.

Have proven experience managing and developing software engineering teams, with a record of mentoring and high delivery standards.
Bring a solid computer science foundation and hands-on experience building and running distributed systems at scale on AWS, using event-driven architecture and APIs.
Be able to define an interview bar, run rigorous hiring processes and recruit strong talent from scratch.
Use AI coding tools hands on and hold clear views on how teams can use AI for productivity and product features.
Focus on client value and pragmatic scoping, and apply strict discipline to money-movement systems, including idempotency and reconciliation.
Speak and write fluent English, explain complex technical ideas clearly and align cross-functional teams.
Have worked on scalable platforms that connect to and scale across several communication vendors.
Have worked as an Engineering Manager or in a similar leadership role, leading and supporting engineers.
Have experience in fintech or financial services.

Have a genuine passion for technology and innovation.
Nice to have: fintech, payments or regulated domain experience, experience on an early founding hub team, or web and mobile channel exposure.
