Embedded Controls Engineer, Airborne Electronic Hardware

Description

The company is building electric aircraft and platforms for customers, and this team works across disciplines on that goal.

This role sits between hardware and software at the circuit board level on aerospace electronics such as flight controllers, flight management systems, battery management systems, aircraft charge control systems and electric motor controllers.

The work centers on control software that runs on microcontrollers, so you will need a strong grasp of how microcontroller hardware is configured through software to meet architecture and functional requirements.

Responsibilities

• Write and test low-level source code, model-based software and control algorithms that run on microcontrollers.
• Write code that implements control algorithms.
• Debug hardware and software problems using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and spectrum analyzers.
• Help bring up prototype hardware when needed.
• Define, capture and analyze hardware/software interface specifications.
• Support the design team on hardware and software architecture trade studies and on subsystem development and definition.
• Develop embedded software and integrate it into hardware during early development, and as needed to support full production.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in software engineering, electrical engineering or controls engineering. A master's degree is desired.
• 3-5 years of experience developing embedded software.
• Working knowledge of MATLAB and Simulink or other model-based design and code generation tools.
• Hands-on experience with closed-loop control applications or modelling.
• Above and beyond: experience with electric motor control.
• Above and beyond: experience designing, developing and controlling electromagnets.
• Above and beyond: experience with ARM microcontrollers (STM32, TMS570, AM26x series) and C2000 microcontrollers.
• Above and beyond: experience developing electromagnetic actuators.
• Above and beyond: hands-on experience building and assembling system test setups.
• Above and beyond: experience with rapid prototyping of hardware and software.
• Above and beyond: experience with power electronics and/or switched power systems.

Conditions

Base pay range is $100,000 - $130,000 USD.

Pay depends on skills, experience, industry background and the changing needs of the role. The company is glad to discuss pay during interviews.
