Description

The company builds electric aircraft and the manufacturing systems needed to produce them at scale.

This role is for a software engineer with strong computational geometry skills who will build production-grade software that turns part and assembly geometry into validated manufacturing outputs. The first focus is composite cure and trim tooling, with a target of cutting engineering cycle time by 50% or more. Over time the work will widen to cover CTE compensation, springback modeling, automated recipe generation and CNC programming.

You will work where manufacturing engineering, CAD/CAM, tooling and software meet, and your work will shape how the company builds aerospace-grade aircraft.

Responsibilities

  • Build software that imports, analyzes, transforms and generates complex 3D CAD geometry.
  • Produce and check production tooling geometry, including tool surfaces, offsets, splits, boundaries, flanges, features, machining allowances and trim definitions.
  • Write automated manufacturability checks that flag geometry, tooling and process risks early in the engineering cycle.
  • Build internal engineering tools that reduce manual work, keep designs consistent and produce traceable, repeatable manufacturing outputs.
  • Connect geometry workflows to CAD, CAM, CNC machining and downstream manufacturing systems.
  • Spend time on the factory floor and in tooling design to see how your output is used and to tie digital models back to physical tools.
  • Once the aluminum tooling workflow is automated, extend the work to composites: CTE compensation for tooling and part geometry, bringing third-party springback models into the engineering workflow, automated recipe and process-definition workflows, and CNC trim-programming automation.

Requirements

  • Minimum: a bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics or a related technical field, or 5+ years of equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum: a solid software engineering background, including building reliable software that engineers, operators, customers or production systems depend on.
  • Minimum: a record of taking an unclear technical problem from concept through implementation and deployment.
  • Minimum: strong analytical and problem-solving skills, especially where software must respect physical constraints.
  • Minimum: clear communication and close collaboration with subject-matter experts outside software engineering.
  • Minimum: an ownership mindset and a willingness to learn manufacturing processes in depth.
  • A portfolio, submitted along with your resume.
  • Above and beyond: experience in computational geometry, geometric modeling, CAD/CAM, computer graphics, robotics or engineering simulation.
  • Above and beyond: experience with CAD representations such as B-reps, surfaces, curves, meshes, point clouds or solid models.
  • Above and beyond: experience with geometry operations such as offsets, intersections, projections, trimming, tessellation, topology repair, feature recognition or path planning.
  • Above and beyond: proficiency in Python, Rust, Go, C++ or another language suited to high-performance engineering software.
  • Above and beyond: experience integrating software with CAD, CAM, PLM, CNC, metrology or manufacturing-execution systems.
  • Above and beyond: familiarity with composites manufacturing, cure and trim tooling, CNC machining, aerospace structures or factory automation.
  • Above and beyond: experience with 3D printing.
  • Above and beyond: experience on a small, high-ownership team where requirements shift quickly and software runs close to operations.

Conditions

Pay is $105,000 to $135,000 USD. The company treats this as its best estimate and bases final pay on skills, experience, industry background and the evolving needs of the role; it is happy to discuss pay during interviews.

The role is based in Burlington or South Burlington, Vermont, and combines office work with time on the production floor, where you will watch manufacturing processes, learn how tooling is used and work directly with technicians and manufacturing engineers.

Candidates are encouraged to apply even if they do not meet every listed qualification.

The company is an equal opportunity employer that makes decisions based on merit, competence and qualifications, without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, disability, veteran or military status, genetic information, pregnancy or any other legally protected characteristic.

Benefits

  • Restricted Stock Units and Performance Stock Units for all full-time team members.
  • Onsite healthcare in Vermont.
  • Medical, dental and vision coverage.
  • Short- and long-term disability cover.
  • Paid parental leave.
  • Daily lunch provided.
