Description

This is a Designer II role in running, training and studio apparel at a global sports brand that makes footwear, apparel and accessories for athletes and everyday movers.

You will develop apparel concepts and products on your own and help shape seasonal product direction, turning consumer, market and trend insight into performance apparel that is new and relevant.

You will take product from concept through development and keep it in line with the brand's standards for design, quality, cost and margin.

The parent group owns three brands, operates in more than 120 countries and employs around 22,000 people.

Responsibilities

  • Own assigned seasonal apparel areas from first concept and design direction through development and the final product, working with design, product development, PLM and other teams.
  • Help build four seasonal and carryover ranges each year that are cohesive, balanced and commercially relevant.
  • Develop and explain design concepts, seasonal stories and product direction using consumer insight, market research, competitor analysis and trend research.
  • Push for differentiated, desirable and innovative products that strengthen the category and contribute to future ICON products.
  • Own the timely, accurate delivery of artwork pages, CADs, tech packs and other design materials against the design calendar.
  • Work with developers and sourcing offices to turn design intent into product, using what factories can do and their limits on fit, function, fabrics and construction.
  • Weigh design choices against cost, margin, commercial needs and product briefs.
  • Run and apply market, competitor, consumer, price and trend research to guide design and spot product opportunities.
  • Present concepts, seasonal stories and product to small and large groups, explaining the reasoning and vision behind them.
  • Give design input in product feedback sessions and respond constructively to feedback.
  • Keep meeting tools and design materials organized, accurate and ready to present.
  • Work across design, product development, PLM, sourcing and other teams to move product forward and resolve issues.
  • Uphold high design execution standards and help grow the apparel design team through knowledge sharing and leadership.

Requirements

  • A BS, BA or BFA in fashion design or a related field.
  • At least 2 years as an apparel designer, ideally at a performance apparel company, with experience owning product from concept through development.
  • Advanced skill in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • A solid understanding of the sports performance and sport lifestyle markets, including competition, distribution, price, product, consumer and retail.
  • Strong technical knowledge of fabrics, trims, construction, product development, fit and quality standards.
  • The ability to turn consumer, market and trend insight into compelling product and design concepts.
  • Strong presentation, storytelling, writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain design intent and influence partners across teams.
  • Strong line merchandising skills, including building well-rounded, balanced and commercially relevant collections.
  • The ability to manage several projects at different stages while staying organized, detail-focused and consistent on quality.
  • The ability to work well in a cross-functional team and show initiative, accountability and sound design judgment.
