Description

The company runs one of the largest networks in the world, serving millions of websites for clients of every size, from independent bloggers and small businesses to Fortune 500 firms.

It speeds up and protects any internet application without new hardware, software installs or code changes. Traffic flows through a global network that improves with each request, bringing better performance and fewer spam and attack problems to the sites it serves.

This role keeps that global network running. You will work with the SRE (Site Reliability Engineering), Network Engineering and Network Deployment Engineering teams, plus outside vendors and partners such as hardware makers, data center and network providers and ISPs, to maintain and improve the infrastructure. You will also build consistent processes and measurements that make the infrastructure easier to manage.

The role is highly visible and calls for deep knowledge of data center infrastructure and physical networking, along with basic skills in data analysis and project management.

Success depends on strong technical and communication skills and the ability to handle tight schedules, different time zones and different working cultures. You will help make the Internet faster and safer for millions of users and the billions of visits their sites receive each month.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with internal teams (Infrastructure, Network Engineering and SRE), and write documentation for remote contractors who carry out data center tasks.

  • Keep data center environments operationally available.
  • Use AI tools to automate repetitive operational work, speed up documentation, and shorten troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
  • Write and maintain documentation, plans, SOPs and MOPs.
  • Support and configure network infrastructure when needed.
  • Give internal teams feedback that improves internal tools and external vendor partnerships.
  • Other responsibilities may include: finding and introducing new technology and automation that is effective, efficient and scalable for deploying and maintaining the global infrastructure; helping define, document and roll out consistent processes across all regions; limited travel.

Requirements

  • Thrive in a hypergrowth engineering setting, staying self-driven and detail-oriented.
  • Have a deep technical understanding of data center colocation environments, network architecture and server technologies.
  • Have worked through partners to deliver infrastructure to remote locations.
  • Have managed operational environments and developed new approaches that improve delivery efficiency or stability.
  • Have experience with Juniper, Cisco and DWDM network equipment.
  • Have at least 4 years of Linux systems administration experience.
  • Have managed and instructed remote contractors.
  • Have worked on standing up infrastructure in remote colocation facilities.
  • Have improved operational processes, including automation tooling, in an environment that changes quickly.
  • Be familiar with common data center operations tasks such as deployment, migration and decommissioning.
  • Be able to handle basic program management (prioritization, planning, scheduling, status reporting) using tools such as JIRA.
  • Take part in a shared on-call rotation that keeps the global network available 24x7.
  • Desirable: Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science or MIS.
  • Desirable: Direct experience running complex data center or infrastructure projects.
  • Desirable: Previous experience installing or maintaining data center and other IT infrastructure, including DCIM tools.
  • Desirable: A track record of refining operations workflows in environments that change quickly.
