The company's defense systems group is hiring a Consultant Embedded Software Engineer (Level 7) for its Advanced Weapons business unit in Northridge, CA.

The role supports the SiAW program, which defines and designs a secure missile weapon system.

You will be part of a multidisciplinary engineering team that builds next-generation solutions for US warfighters, and you will work with teams on other projects on security architecture designs, as well as with external partners and customers.

Application period is estimated at 20 days from the posting date, but it may be shortened or extended based on business needs and candidate availability.

  • Design, develop, code, test and debug system-level software for real-time, multicore platforms.
  • Take an active part in each phase of the agile software development lifecycle.
  • Check software requirements against implementation and performance targets, verifying and validating both.
  • Work with hardware, firmware and algorithm teams so the system integrates smoothly.
  • Review code, enforce coding standards and mentor junior engineers.
  • Create and keep up architectural artifacts such as block diagrams, interface control documents, traceability matrices and trade studies.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering or a STEM field with 16 years of experience, 14 years with a master's degree, or 12 years with a Ph.D.
  • Proven experience in system architecture, including hardware, programmable logic, and software, and partitioning at system level.
  • Strong background in digital signal processing (DSP).
  • Expert-level C++ and fluency in at least one other language or technology such as Java, Python or C.
  • Working knowledge of communication protocols including SPI, UART, 1553, ARINC and UAI.
  • Full-cycle software development experience covering specification, design, implementation, integration, debugging and maintenance.
  • Real-time software development on multicore System-on-Chip (SoC) platforms, including Board Support Package and device driver work.
  • Demonstrated ability to define and evolve software architectures.
  • An active US Government issued Secret security clearance.
  • Preferred: proficiency with version control systems, especially Git.
  • Preferred: hands-on experience designing embedded systems that run pre-emptive, multitasking RTOSes.
  • Preferred: expertise in optimizing embedded C++ and familiarity with tools such as VxWorks.
  • Preferred: direct experience integrating and testing hardware components.
  • Preferred: experience working directly with electrical engineers to verify hardware interfaces, trace signals with oscilloscopes and debug board-level issues.
  • Preferred: strong troubleshooting skills for complex integrated applications and test setup problems.
  • Preferred: familiarity with the Atlassian tool suite (JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket, SonarQube).
  • Preferred: ability to write system requirements and make tradeoffs among code efficiency, memory and cost.
