Rust Senior Software Engineer – Bare Metal as a Service & Datacenter Networking

Description

The engineering team builds cloud-native bare-metal orchestration platforms for AI neo-cloud environments. Each engineer has deep expertise in one primary area and practical working knowledge of neighboring systems, which supports design reviews, cross-domain code reviews and on-call coverage.

The codebase is built mainly on open-source projects, and contributing upstream is a large part of the work. Control plane software is written in Rust and Go, uses Kubernetes operators, and is instrumented with OpenTelemetry from the start.

The role is for a senior engineer with strong software architecture skills and deep knowledge of datacenter networking and DPU architectures. You will build control planes for high-density, high-throughput infrastructure supporting AI training and inference. Experience with automated bare-metal provisioning and lifecycle management is a strong asset.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain production-grade control plane microservices, custom Kubernetes operators and reconciliation engines in Rust and Go.
• Write functional and non-functional requirements, architecture specifications, sequence diagrams, and gRPC/Protobuf and REST API schemas.
• Build integration modules for network operating systems (SONiC, NVUE, Cumulus) and DPU hardware platforms.
• Instrument services end to end with OpenTelemetry traces and metrics, and run root-cause analysis across distributed systems written in several languages.
• Take part in pull request reviews across Rust, Go and SQL code, and keep test coverage high using mock-based tests.

Requirements

• Mastery of Rust, including the Tokio async runtime, Tonic, Axum and sqlx, plus strong working knowledge of Go.
• Advanced SQL and PostgreSQL skills, gRPC/Protobuf contract design and schema evolution.
• Strong grounding in async concurrency, lock-free patterns, distributed state handling and mock-driven testing.
• Expertise in BGP, MP-BGP, EVPN, VXLAN, L3VNI, route targets and route server design, with hands-on work on SONiC, Cumulus Linux and NVUE, including a first-class NVUE client.
• Deep knowledge of NVIDIA DOCA, Host-Based Networking (HBN), BlueField DPU architectures and the DPF operator model (BFB, DPUSet and DPUNode CRDs).
• Understanding of InfiniBand fabrics, NVLink and NMX-M partitioning, and RoCEv2.
• Advanced knowledge of Linux netlink, network namespaces, routing tables, and DHCP and DNS services built into the project.
• Familiarity with CNI plugins such as Calico and Cilium.
• Expertise in PXE/iPXE, UEFI, Secure Boot, measured boot and TPM attestation.
• Proficiency with Redfish, IPMI and BMC abstractions across Dell, Lenovo and NVIDIA reference hardware.
• In-depth knowledge of boot chains, systemd, initramfs and BIOS configuration matrices.
• Practical experience with PKI, X.509, TLS, SPIFFE/SVID, Vault, KMS, Keycloak (OAuth2/JWT) and RBAC.
• Experience with KubeVirt and KVM.
• Experience writing custom controllers or operators with kube-rs or controller-runtime, using CRD-driven reconciliation loops.
• Commitment to test-driven design, with code that uses mock interfaces for external hardware and network dependencies.
• A record of writing clear architecture specs and taking part in cross-functional design reviews.
• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience in cloud-native platforms, systems programming, networking or infrastructure automation.
• OVS and DPDK experience and open-source maintainership are plus points.
