Description

You will join the national Environment and Energy SH&E team, which can base you at Manchester, Basingstoke, Glasgow, Cambridge or Bristol.

You will work with the GGP CDM Lead to build positive engagement, give support and guidance, and share CDM knowledge across projects while promoting best practice and strong health, safety and wellbeing standards.

You will deliver Principal Designer services on some of the largest energy infrastructure projects in the UK, working alongside project teams and clients.

The company is an infrastructure consultancy covering planning, design, engineering, programme and construction management across transport, buildings, water, new energy and the environment. Its Professional Services business had revenue of $16.1 billion in fiscal year 2025, and the wider global team has over 50,000 people.

The workplace is inclusive and forward-thinking, and each person's contribution is valued.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a visible champion for health, including wellbeing, safety and the environment, pushing for ongoing improvement and new ideas that build a mature safety culture under company policies, procedures and SH&E strategies.
  • Lead the pre-construction phase, manage risk, improve communication and cooperation, and oversee the handover from design to construction, including preparing health and safety files.
  • Look for ways to add value in every task and deliverable, and keep improving methods, processes and results.
  • Advise energy project staff and clients on CDM so they can meet their statutory duties, raising any legal gaps promptly and professionally.
  • Work with colleagues and managers as one cohesive team, showing respect, support and cooperation towards shared goals.
  • Encourage people to follow procedures and process requirements within your scope to improve compliance and the safety culture.
  • Help promote the company's Safety for Life, Culture of Caring and Life Preserving Principles to keep the workplace safe, healthy and secure.

Requirements

  • You hold a design or engineering degree.
  • You have experience on overhead line and HV projects.
  • You are a member of the Association of Project Safety.
  • You hold a NEBOSH National or General Certificate, or a similar health and safety qualification.
  • You have delivered the Principal Designer role under CDM on energy projects, carrying out those duties effectively and efficiently.
  • If you meet some of these requirements or have transferable skills that would benefit the company, you are encouraged to get in touch.

Conditions

The role is hybrid: you can work from a company office, a remote location or a client site.

Attending an in-person Day 1 onboarding at a company office is a condition of employment for all new hires.

Applicants with a disability or long-term condition who meet the essential criteria will be offered an interview under the Disability Confident Interview Scheme, which you can request through the company's reasonable accommodations contact.

All information you provide is kept confidential under EEO guidelines.

Benefits

  • Core and personalised benefits supporting your future and wellbeing, tailored to your lifestyle.
  • Career development opportunities.
  • Flexible hybrid working.
  • Access to technical practice networks and the company University.
  • Volunteering days.
  • Access to industry-leading technology and thinking as part of a global, publicly traded firm.
