Description

About the company

The company is a technology company focused on improving the conditions for economic growth and prosperity. We build programmable financial infrastructure, rethinking from first principles how financial services should work, to make it easier and cheaper for any business to start and scale. The most ambitious companies in the world use the company as core infrastructure to grow faster. They process trillions of dollars a year on the company, equivalent to around 1.7% of global GDP. While economic growth makes everyone better off, open markets also enable greater variety. When any business can easily serve a global customer base, the quality and diversity of products in the world increase, and craft and creativity are unleashed into the smallest niches. Our own growth is wholly contingent on the success of the businesses building on the company. We therefore invest back into our technology at an unusual rate. We make upgrades to our products every single day to deliver compounding gains to our customers. We maintain some of the most reliable APIs on the internet. We build entirely new pieces of financial infrastructure to enable new ideas. And our significant advances in risk and fraud infrastructure over many years are making the internet economy safer and more accessible.

Though people at the company don’t tend to take themselves seriously, the company is a fairly serious place: our customers are depending on us for their livelihoods. We admire ambition, intensity, curiosity, humility, and rigor. The most effective people become knowledgeable about many domains besides their own. Any company is an applied exercise in understanding some aspect of society or the market. In working with so many (especially the new and innovative ones), we think that the company is one of the very best places to learn about how the world works.

Our internship program is structured to provide interns with the opportunity to work on real projects that our customers urgently need. In this role you will be part of the Product Design team, which is made up of several groups that define, create, and deliver all user-facing aspects of the company’s product. Product Designers are strategic partners to Engineering and Product Management within their product area. In close collaboration with product teams, they shape user experiences, then translate them into high-quality designs that can be tested, shipped, and refined. Designers are responsible for building elegant, functional products that users love—and want to tell others about.

Responsibilities

  • As a Product Design Intern, you will focus on designing and building experiences that will be shipped to our users in production. You will contribute design iterations to ongoing project workstreams, tackling important projects to increase global commerce, and help shape brand new experiences. Our internship program is competitive and the expectations are high.
  • Work on a product design project with a product team, translating business ideas into real experience.
  • Help craft thoughtful experiences that enable startups and large businesses to establish and manage their businesses.
  • Apply problem-solving skills and human-centered approaches to address complex and ambiguous business and user problems.
  • Develop and refine design solutions by partnering closely with other designers.
  • Craft and prototype visually polished experiences to get user feedback.
  • Partner closely with engineering to implement a feature/product from design to implementation, and get it in the hands of our users.
  • Engage in group design critiques and collaborative design sessions to improve and receive feedback on your work.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, including engineers, product managers, data scientists, and researchers, proactively seeking and incorporating feedback.
  • Understand and advocate for our users, participating in the design process from early concepts to final delivery.

Requirements

  • Ambitious builder: You’re energized by building solutions without clear precedent and solving problems with far-reaching consequences. Successful Stripes are deeply curious, and prefer the joy of discovery to the comfort of certainty.
  • Rigorous thinker: You appreciate that things worth doing are rarely simple. You enjoy working on problems that have never been tackled before.
  • Adaptable problem solver: You adapt quickly and treat obstacles as opportunities. At the company we embrace kindness while encouraging Stripes to take measured risks and act boldly, even in the absence of consensus.
  • Minimum Requirements
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a design-related field, such as UX/UI, Interaction Design, Human Interface, Computer Science, HCI, or a related discipline.
  • Some experience using computer programs to design, such as Figma/Canva.
  • Demonstrated experience designing experiences and user flows.
  • Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and best practices.
  • Ability to learn unfamiliar systems, form an understanding through independent research, and effectively work with a mentor and teammates.
  • Are a self-motivated problem solver committed to personal growth.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to leverage AI tools to accelerate work while applying rigorous critical thinking and professional judgement to review, refine, and validate all outputs.
  • Ability to participate in a paid full-time internship between May–August, 2027.
  • Preferred Qualifications (A bonus, not a requirement)
  • Previous project, internship, or work experience in UX/UI design or related fields.
  • Experience working with or conducting your own research, presenting results, and acting on those results.
  • Experience with AI tools like Cursor, Lovable, V0, or any others.
  • Strong knowledge in design craft and visual design.
  • Intent to return to the degree program after the completion of the internship/co-op.
