Description

The company makes thermal management and mission-critical building systems, and works on energy efficiency and decarbonization, helping customers use energy more productively and cut carbon output. Its clients include data centers, healthcare providers, pharmaceutical makers, advanced manufacturers, and universities.

The company has been operating for more than 140 years and has a large field organization that supports installed systems over their full life.

This is an on-site role in the HVAC division, where you lead assigned controls projects from pre-construction planning through commissioning and closeout. You oversee construction management and execution, and you coordinate the company's internal staff, subcontractors, field crews, and customers so that work is safe, on time, on budget, and meets the contract.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, staff, and control costs, changes, risks, and quality across the project lifecycle.
  • Lead project meetings, manage construction workflows, track progress against milestones, and resolve field problems quickly.
  • Lead HVAC controls projects through hardware design, programming, installation coordination, commissioning, and closeout.
  • Coordinate daily work among subcontractors, electrical installers, technicians, designers, and administrative staff.
  • Track costs, billings, collections, cash flow, and gross margin for the project.
  • Keep customers informed at every phase and help build lasting relationships with them.
  • Review contract scope, assess field directives, bulletins, and schedule changes, and pursue change orders when extra work appears.
  • Handle procurement, including choosing materials, placing orders, comparing vendor pricing, checking availability, and tracking deliveries.
  • Supervise point loading, device verification, system checkout, and commissioning of controllers and related equipment.
  • Confirm the installed system works fully, fix any faults, and make sure it meets project requirements.
  • Produce accurate as-built drawings, commissioning records, manuals, and warranty paperwork.
  • Train owners and operators on how to run the system at their site.
  • Attend progress meetings, report status, and forecast revenue, costs, and margin when asked.
  • Make sure work meets applicable safety standards and legal requirements.
  • Own each project, keep commitments, and hold the work to the required standard.
  • Stay close to the jobsite and customer, remove obstacles, and escalate risks or changes early.
  • Explain technical details clearly to both technical and non-technical listeners.
  • Coach and mentor crew members and give technical guidance when needed.
  • Follow company standards for installation, commissioning, and field work.

Requirements

  • Minimum: an associate degree in construction management, engineering technology, HVAC technology, building automation systems, or a related field, plus at least 4 years managing, coordinating, or carrying out HVAC, building automation, controls, or commercial construction work.
  • Preferred: a bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, engineering technology, building automation systems, HVAC technology, or a related discipline, with proven project management, construction administration, and field leadership experience.
  • Hands-on experience designing, installing, starting up, commissioning, and handing over digital HVAC or building automation control systems.
  • Solid grasp of control theory, HVAC equipment operation, and building automation systems.
  • Proven construction management experience covering planning, scheduling, resourcing, subcontractor oversight, and field supervision.
  • Working knowledge of construction processes, contract administration, documentation, change orders, requests for information, submittal review, and closeout.
  • Ability to read construction drawings, specifications, control schematics, sequences of operation, and schedules.
  • Understanding of project accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cost control, earned value, and project finance.
  • Knowledge of construction safety rules, jobsite coordination, risk management, quality control, and relevant industry standards.
  • A firm commitment to safety, professionalism, ethics, and customer satisfaction.
  • Experience managing scope, labor productivity, material buying, and profitability while delivering good customer results.
  • Customer-facing experience with strong organization, leadership, and relationship skills, and a record of leading projects through every phase.
  • Clear verbal and written communication, including explaining technical ideas to non-technical stakeholders, customers, contractors, and team members.
  • Able to work independently across several projects and competing deadlines and stakeholder needs.
  • Proficient with Windows, Microsoft Excel, project management software, scheduling tools, and other business applications.
