Backend QA Engineer

As the QA Engineer, you act as the quality champion in your team. You help shape testing practices, push automation forward and help the team ship reliable software with confidence, working alongside developers, product stakeholders and other engineers to build quality into each delivery stage.

Responsibilities

• Own and steadily improve the testing approach for the backend services and APIs, and become the go-to person for testing in an agile setup.
• Make sure infrastructure, environments and test data are ready so that test runs are smooth and reliable.
• Design, build and grow automated tests across backend services and the API layer, covering integration, contract, component and end-to-end testing.
• Work with developers and product stakeholders to spot risks, clarify requirements and catch defects early in the lifecycle.
• Analyse test failures and defects, help with root-cause analysis, and find recurring quality issues and ways to improve.
• Share regular test results, insights and quality metrics with stakeholders to support release decisions.
• Help advance Continuous Testing and Continuous Delivery so quality rises without slowing delivery.

Requirements

• Background in software QA and test automation for backend systems, with a solid grasp of testing principles, test design techniques and risk-based testing.
• Hands-on work with backend and REST API testing across levels such as integration, contract, component and end-to-end testing.
• Programming experience in Java, Kotlin or a similar language, and an interest in improving testing practices and automation coverage.
• Working knowledge of SQL and database validation, plus test environments, test data management, mocking and service virtualization.
• Nice to have: experience with Serenity, REST Assured, JUnit, contract testing (e.g. Pact), WireMock, Jira Xray or GitLab.
• A collaborative, proactive approach to solving problems and communicating across functions.
• Fluent English.
