Description

You'd be the first Associate Product Manager at a venture-backed startup that recently closed its Series B and is entering its next growth phase.

The company is the market leader in institutionally funded gap loan programs. It works with colleges and universities to design, launch and run lending programs that help students stay enrolled and graduate.

This role sits in the talent business, which helps healthcare employers attract and keep staff by matching them with diverse candidates and using student loan repayment as a recruiting and retention tool.

You'll report to the Senior Product Manager, get coaching from the Director of Product, and work day to day with Engineering, Design, Partner Success and Operations. The path to Product Manager is targeted at about 12 months, depending on your growth and the team's needs.

Responsibilities

  • Learn what users need by interviewing students and employers, running surveys, and turning the findings into insights product managers can use.
  • Pull feedback from support tickets, Partner Success, sales calls and usage data, and find the patterns across them.
  • Run short research projects, such as competitive reviews or vendor evaluations, that inform roadmap decisions.
  • Draft user stories, requirements and acceptance criteria with product managers and engineers.
  • After each release, track how features perform, write follow-up tickets and fast-follows, and file bug reports that engineers can reproduce.
  • Build and maintain dashboards that show whether features are adopted and whether they move the metrics we expected.
  • Define what success looks like with product managers before launch, and confirm we can measure it.
  • Write release notes for Partner Success, Sales and leadership covering what is shipping, why it matters and what it should change.
  • Make demos, walkthrough videos and launch materials that show internal teams and partners the problem each feature solves and the value it adds.
  • Share 30- and 60-day impact readouts comparing expected and actual results, and turn the gaps into follow-up work.
  • Advise Partner Success and Implementation on complex or unusual partner setups, working out what the partner really needs and how the system should handle it.
  • Keep the system in sync with partner data from HRIS and payroll integrations. Learn which data drives which rules, catch drift early, and turn recurring issues into product fixes.
  • Work with Operations on data backfills and cleanup. Find recurring quality problems, set the scope of each fix, verify the results, and tell affected teams what changed.
  • Trace how product and rule changes affect participants, payments and reporting, and explain the impact to internal teams and partners.
  • For example, if a participant's eligibility changes and they qualify for a smaller benefit, work out when the new amount starts, what happens to payments already scheduled, and what else must update to stay in sync.

Requirements

  • 1 to 3 years of experience in product, analytics, product operations, implementation, consulting or a similar role.
  • Data skills: you have built dashboards people actually use, write SQL to answer questions and check data quality, and are comfortable with a product analytics tool such as PostHog, Amplitude or Mixpanel.
  • Measurement judgment: you can define success for a feature and tell a real result from noise.
  • Systems thinking: you follow how data and rules interact, spot edge cases and conflicts, and ask what happens next before anything goes live.
  • User curiosity: you have talked with users directly and can tell what they ask for apart from what they need.
  • Clear writing: your specs and tickets are easy for engineers to act on, and you can explain technical logic to non-technical partners.
  • Technical comfort: you understand how software is built and work well with engineers.
  • Ownership: you follow through on every task, including the detailed and behind-the-scenes work, and raise problems early.
