Description

The company is rebuilding payroll infrastructure that still runs on decades-old systems.

It does not run payroll itself. It provides embedded payroll to the businesses that do, helping them launch, grow and operate.

The team serves thousands of employers across all industries and sizes, with the aim of keeping pay simple.

This role owns payouts, the flow that gets employees and contractors paid across the company's infrastructure. Payouts is a well-scoped, high-trust area. ACH is live and stable, and larger projects are planned for next year.

You will work with a dedicated engineering counterpart, company leadership and partners, which are software companies in a range of verticals.

Responsibilities

  • Own payouts from end to end, starting with ACH and moving toward same-day pay and new payment methods.
  • Take a well-scoped problem and drive it to completion with careful, sound judgment rather than simply ticking off tasks.
  • Find edge cases before release and keep quality high so that work rarely needs to be redone.
  • Decide which calls you can make yourself and which to bring to your manager.
  • Work with your dedicated engineering counterpart and with engineering, operations and partner teams to ship reliably.
  • Talk directly with partners to learn how payouts affect their daily work, and turn what you learn into product decisions.

Requirements

  • Candidates from many backgrounds may fit this role.
  • Product management experience at technology companies.
  • A proven record of thorough, low-iteration execution on well-scoped work, with releases that do not come back for rework.
  • Sound judgment on when to escalate and when to handle something yourself.
  • Comfort working closely with engineering, operations and external partners to see a project through.
  • Willingness to attend the company's annual 3-day offsite in the spring.
  • Payments experience is a plus but not required.
  • Payroll and tax knowledge is not required, as the company considers it learnable.

Conditions

The team is spread across the US. The role can be remote, hybrid, or based in the New York City or San Francisco office.

Hybrid and in-office staff have offices open all week.

Remote staff must be able to perform all responsibilities without distraction, while keeping quality, communication and productivity high.

The company encourages attending team offsites, events and hackathons held throughout the year.

Benefits

  • In-office and hybrid staff receive meals on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • Regular happy hours, game nights and other in-person events are held.
