Description

This is a new-graduate role on the field applications engineering team, supporting strategic customers in AI, datacenter, server, networking and high-performance computing.

It suits engineers who enjoy power electronics, power conversion and whole-system power delivery. You will work with senior field applications engineers and power systems engineers on customer designs, power solution validation and characterization, and technical troubleshooting.

The company is an embedded semiconductor provider with more than 21,000 engineers in over 30 countries, working on automotive, industrial, infrastructure and IoT technology.

Responsibilities

  • Under senior FAE guidance, help strategic customer programs from concept through production.
  • Help validate, characterize and optimize digital multiphase power solutions used in AI, cloud, server and networking systems.
  • Run hands-on lab tests covering efficiency, load transients, power sequencing, telemetry, protection features and power rail measurement.
  • Investigate faults and find root causes.
  • Support customers with board bring-up, power supply debugging and system-level validation.
  • Take part in schematic reviews, component selection and PCB layout reviews for high-current power delivery.
  • Write technical reports, characterization summaries, validation documents and customer presentations.
  • Learn to use oscilloscopes, electronic loads, network analyzers, power analyzers and source measure instruments.
  • Help build automated validation methods and data analysis workflows.
  • Work with product marketing, applications engineering, product line management and sales on customer engagements and design wins.
  • Over time, join customer technical discussions and handle customer design work on your own.

Requirements

  • Hold a BS or MS in electrical engineering, specializing in power electronics.
  • Be a recent graduate or expect to graduate within the current academic year.
  • Have solid coursework in power electronics, analog circuit design, control systems, electronic circuits and embedded systems.
  • Understand the basics of DC-DC converters, switching power supplies, feedback control loops, analog and mixed-signal circuits and circuit analysis.
  • Communicate clearly in writing and speech.
  • Show that you can solve complex technical problems as part of a team.
  • Travel occasionally to customer sites and work in a lab.
  • Live in the San Jose, CA area or be willing to move there.
  • Preferred: internship, co-op, undergraduate research or work experience in power electronics, power supply design, hardware, validation, systems or semiconductor applications.
  • Preferred: experience designing, building or debugging switching power supplies.
  • Preferred: use of simulation tools such as LTspice, PSpice, SIMPLIS, MATLAB/Simulink or Cadence extraction tools.
  • Preferred: hands-on work with oscilloscopes, electronic loads, power supplies, spectrum analyzers or digital multimeters.
  • Preferred: scripting or automation in Python, MATLAB or similar tools.
  • Preferred: a design project, thesis or research in power conversion, voltage regulators, battery management, motor control, power integrity or renewable energy.
  • Preferred: familiarity with PCB design, layout and power delivery networks.
  • Real interest in power electronics and the technology behind it.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Quick to learn in a fast-moving, customer-facing setting.
  • Enjoy hands-on lab work and debugging.
  • Take ownership of technical issues and follow them through to the end.
  • Want to grow into a customer-facing technical leader for some of the industry's largest AI and datacenter customers.

Conditions

The expected annual pay range is $75,000-$89,500.

The role is eligible for bonuses. The final offer depends on location, experience and skillset.

The job is based in San Jose, CA, supporting Bay Area customers and using the company's San Jose lab.

The company is an equal opportunity employer, and because it handles dual-use technology under U.S. export controls, it may need a U.S. government export license before releasing technology to certain people.

Benefits

  • Elective benefits include medical, a health savings account (with an eligible medical plan), dental, vision, health and dependent care flexible spending accounts, pre-tax commuter benefits, life insurance, AD&D and pet insurance.
  • Benefited employees also get company-paid life insurance, AD&D, long-term disability and short-term medical, plus paid sick time, paid holidays and accrued vacation.
  • New hires attend a detailed benefits orientation.
