Description

The company is a semiconductor business whose global sales organization works with customers on AI and edge technology in vehicles, factories, hospitals, homes and consumer devices.

The Technical Sales & Applications Program is an early-career program for new college graduates who want customer-facing technical roles in the Industrial, IoT and Automotive markets.

Over 9 to 12 months, participants combine structured training on semiconductor and system basics, product portfolios, embedded systems and software, and business fundamentals with on-the-job work alongside experienced engineers, technical sales engineers, product teams, partners and customers.

Participants who complete the program move into a permanent Field Application Engineer role in the Americas Sales organization, with placement based on business needs and personal preference.

Field Application Engineers are the field specialists for a critical technology area such as Microcontrollers, Applications Processors, Wireless or Security. They give customers technical guidance and hands-on support when needed, help find new projects, and work with technical sales engineers to propose value-based technical solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Give technical guidance to sales teams and customers on the NXP portfolio, such as MCU and MPU selection, bring-up and software stack integration.
  • Lead proof-of-concept work, product evaluations, debugging, integration, lab validation and basic system-level troubleshooting using oscilloscopes, current and voltage probes, power analyzers, and software debug and trace tools.
  • Support customer designs through schematic and PCB reviews.
  • Build technical presentations, demonstrations and training materials, and deliver them with guidance from senior engineers.
  • Work with sales, marketing, product management and engineering teams to pass on customer needs and support business opportunities.
  • Pass customer feedback to product lines, flag gaps in collateral, and help improve tools, software and documentation.
  • Represent NXP technology at customer meetings, workshops, and partner and industry events.

Requirements

  • Hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
  • Have graduated within the past 24 months or be about to graduate.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Show a clear interest in electronics and in embedded MCU and MPU software for robotics, including real-time control, motor control, sensor integration, edge AI, and Linux- or RTOS-based development.
  • Understand analog and digital circuits, embedded systems, microcontrollers, processors and semiconductor applications, and have software skills in C, C++, Python or similar languages.
  • Be familiar with embedded debugging and development environments, including IDEs, SDKs, evaluation boards and common lab tools.
  • Solve problems analytically and learn new technologies quickly.
  • Communicate well in writing and speech, and explain technical concepts clearly to different audiences.
  • Work effectively in collaborative, cross-functional, customer-focused teams.
  • Be self-motivated and curious, and eager to build both technical skill and business judgment.
  • Have presented technical work through class projects, internships, research, competitions or student organizations.
  • Show leadership, teamwork or campus involvement through engineering teams, competitions or technical societies.
  • Have internship, co-op or project experience in applications engineering, design engineering, embedded software, technical sales or customer support.
  • Be willing to relocate to Austin and travel mainly within North America.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with ARM-based embedded systems, RTOS basics or Linux embedded development.
  • Nice to have: exposure to embedded software development or debugging through academic or hands-on projects.
  • Nice to have: exposure to robotics software, motion control or sensor integration.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with embedded communication interfaces such as UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, USB or Ethernet.
  • Nice to have: exposure to basic real-time control or motor-control concepts.
  • Nice to have: exposure to sensing, perception or sensor fusion for robotics or edge systems.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with edge AI or embedded ML.
  • Nice to have: awareness of embedded security, safety and reliability concepts.
