Description

The company's tax department administers the city's tax revenue laws in a fair, efficient and transparent way, aiming to build public trust, encourage compliance and give customers strong service.

Its technology division designs, builds and supports the department's computer systems, covering hardware, software, applications, infrastructure, telephone systems and data security. It runs tax payment programs for New York City and maintains the systems and websites behind citywide payments, land records, property assessment, parking adjudications, customer service and the Sheriff's public safety work.

The team is hiring an experienced Appian developer to look after the Appian platform and its data while building feature-rich applications with good user experiences. You will join a dedicated technology team, hands-on in designing, coding and testing new applications, and help deliver applications built on low-code platforms in a collaborative setting where technical work is tied to business goals.

You will report to the Director of Parking and Collections.

Responsibilities

  • Run the Appian platform and its data across development, test, staging and production on Appian Cloud and AWS S3.
  • Set up, document and maintain Appian infrastructure, environment settings, user access and security roles, authentication (SSO, LDAP, SAML, OAuth), monitoring and alerting.
  • Design, build and deploy complex, enterprise-grade, highly integrated applications on low-code platforms such as Appian, using built-in tools including Process Models, Record Actions, Rules, Expressions, SAIL, Data Fabric, Process HQ and other Appian features.
  • Work with developers, architects and business stakeholders. Track system health, plan capacity and watch platform performance metrics.
  • Set and enforce governance standards, operating procedures and best practices. Support administration of other low-code or no-code platforms where needed.
  • Carry out upgrades, patches, maintenance and high-availability setup for the Appian platform and other configuration items.
  • Support CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation for Appian applications, and support integrations with enterprise systems, APIs, databases and cloud services.
  • Help shape the architecture of complex low-code applications so they are scalable, reliable, secure and aligned with the department's business goals.
  • Build automation that stops recurring problems, and help make quality the first concern.
  • Train other developers on the team and share best practices. Encourage learning and growth. Run application and code reviews with clear feedback on quality, design and implementation.
  • Connect Appian applications to external enterprise systems and databases through REST and SOAP APIs and connected systems.
  • Test and debug front-end applications for cross-browser compatibility, responsiveness and performance.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time experience in the areas required for the position.
  • Education and/or experience that is equivalent to the above.
