Description

Senior Staff engineers connect the work across the company's engineering groups. Rather than owning a single system, you shape how several teams build theirs.

Platform work you lead, standards you set, and coaching you give Staff and Senior engineers speed up delivery and raise quality across the company.

Your decisions affect the reliability, security and scalability of software that customers and mission partners rely on.

The company was founded in 2018 and builds secure data platforms for space missions, national defense, healthcare and commercial products, with cloud-native design and security built in from the start.

Responsibilities

  • Lead work that spans several teams or product areas, such as major re-architectures, new platform capabilities, and reliability or security programs that touch many systems
  • Design and drive large-scale architecture, including platform components, shared libraries, major migrations and cross-product integrations
  • Work through performance, scalability, reliability and security tradeoffs across backend, frontend, data and infrastructure
  • Anticipate long-term risk and downstream impact for cross-team outcomes, and own those outcomes with little direction
  • Reduce unnecessary technical fragmentation by aligning patterns, tooling and shared standards across engineering groups
  • Improve testing, observability, CI/CD, coding standards and security posture across multiple teams
  • Find systemic weaknesses in test reliability, performance, security and developer experience, and design programs to fix them at scale
  • Lead multi-team initiatives from concept to rollout, keeping engineering groups aligned on shared goals and compatible designs
  • Serve as a key technical partner to program leadership, product management and cross-functional leads
  • Represent engineering in high-level discussions on roadmap priorities, architectural tradeoffs and investment decisions
  • Coach Staff and Senior engineers to run their domains well and grow into broader technical leaders

Requirements

  • Deep skill across several software areas: distributed systems, API design, data architecture, frontend or backend development, and platform engineering
  • Proven record of leading multi-team technical work from concept to production at organizational scale, with measurable gains in reliability, performance or delivery speed
  • Deep experience in large-scale system design, platform architecture and cross-cutting technical strategy across multiple stacks and deployment environments
  • Strong record of cross-team improvements in testing, observability, CI/CD, security or shared infrastructure
  • Ability to find and fix systemic technical risk and fragmentation across many codebases and teams
  • Proven success coaching Staff-level engineers into broader technical leaders
  • Clear technical communication that brings multiple teams behind shared architecture, patterns and standards
  • Experience driving results across reporting lines without formal authority
  • Education and experience, one of: a PhD in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field plus 6+ years of software engineering experience; a Master's in one of those fields plus 8+ years; a Bachelor's plus 10+ years; an Associate degree in a related field plus 12+ years; or a High School Diploma or GED plus 14+ years
  • Preferred: experience designing or owning shared platforms, internal developer tools or cross-cutting infrastructure used by many product teams
  • Preferred: background in large-scale migrations, performance programs or multi-year reliability initiatives
  • Preferred: familiarity with DoD, intelligence community or federal software delivery and security standards, including RMF, NIST 800-53 or STIG compliance
  • Preferred: experience managing architectural technical debt at scale and simplifying large, complex codebases
  • Preferred: history of growing Staff-level talent through direct coaching, structured mentorship or leadership programs
  • Preferred: contributions to engineering strategy, hiring or the technical community beyond your own team
  • Preferred: recognition as a technical leader through publications, conference talks, open-source ownership or standards work
