Description

The company needs a senior Elasticsearch engineer to lead search, analytics, and data engineering work for acquisition and contract lifecycle systems that support critical missions.

You will be the go-to technical expert on the Elastic Stack, shape architecture decisions, and own modernization plans for large government environments.

The role suits an experienced engineer who can guide others, influence direction, and build reliable, scalable solutions for complex data.

Responsibilities

  • Design and tune Elasticsearch clusters, indexes, mappings, and data models for large volumes.
  • Build Kibana dashboards, scripted queries, alerts, and analytics.
  • Lead the building and oversight of ingestion and extraction workflows in Apache NiFi.
  • Drive improvements to the Procurement Integrated Enterprise Environment (PIEE).
  • Manage performance, cluster health, resilience, and observability across distributed systems.
  • Give technical leadership to SAFe teams on system design, data patterns, and integration effects.
  • Apply enterprise data security, compliance, and migration practices.
  • Track new Elastic Stack features, test them, and create multi-phase upgrade plans that cover application code, APIs, integrations, and external dependencies.
  • Work with product owners, developers, and other teams to adopt new platform features safely and in step.
  • Mentor mid-level and junior engineers and set standards and best practices.
  • Create long-term technical roadmaps that match changing mission needs.

Requirements

  • Required: A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field. Experience may be considered in place of the degree.
  • Required: Eight or more years of progressive engineering experience, including at least 2 years of hands-on professional Elasticsearch work.
  • Required: Deep knowledge of Elasticsearch internals, cluster tuning, scaling, shard allocation, and snapshot management.
  • Required: Advanced skill with Kibana analytics, scripted fields, pipeline aggregations, alerting, and observability.
  • Required: Strong SQL and PL/SQL skills, plus experience with Oracle or PostgreSQL.
  • Required: Experience with AWS services such as S3, RDS, and EKS, or comparable cloud data platforms.
  • Required: A proven record of leading technical initiatives and shaping architecture.
  • Required: Willing and able to obtain a DoD Secret clearance.
  • Desired: Experience with vector search, embeddings, similarity algorithms, and hybrid search.
  • Desired: Familiarity with machine learning for observability, such as anomaly detection, log and metric correlation, and predictive alerts.
  • Desired: Experience with relational database platforms such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server.
  • Desired: Skill in Groovy, Python, or similar scripting languages for automation and pipeline orchestration.
  • Desired: Understanding of containerized deployments and infrastructure as code.
  • Desired: Experience leading or mentoring technical teams.
  • Desired: Elastic certifications such as Engineer, Analyst, or Observability, or similar.
  • Desired: AWS certifications such as Solutions Architect or similar.
  • Desired: Experience with DevOps pipelines, CI/CD, GitLab, or Jenkins.
  • Desired: Background in machine learning or data science workflows.
  • Desired: Strong communication skills and the ability to work across varied technical and functional teams.
  • Desired: Track record of supporting or leading work in fast-moving, mission-driven settings.
