Description

Fully remote, limited to Eastern and Central time zones, with some travel required.

The company is a venture-backed startup working to widen access to education and career paths. Rising tuition and tighter loan supply leave many first-generation and working-class students short of the money to finish school. The company is the market leader in institutionally funded gap loan programs, working with schools to design, launch, and run lending that keeps students enrolled and graduating.

The company recently closed a Series B and is entering its next growth phase.

It runs two go-to-market motions on one platform. One sells a workforce financing benefit to healthcare employers through long B2B sales cycles, multi-stakeholder committees, and named accounts. The other originates loans to students at partner schools through a high-volume consumer funnel measured by applications, approvals, conversion, and unit economics. The two feed each other, but they are instrumented very differently.

The team needs someone to build the systems underneath both.

You will own the company's HubSpot instance and the systems around it, covering funnel architecture, revenue operations, lifecycle automation, scoring, routing, and reporting across both motions.

This is an engineering role, not an administrative one. You build a system that removes a manual step instead of performing that step well, and you reach for an API or automation before accepting manual work.

This is the first hire in the seat. The starting point is messy, and the payoff once it is cleaned up is large.

Responsibilities

  • Take full ownership of HubSpot across all portals: object model, lifecycle stages, properties, associations, pipelines, workflows, forms, integrations, and the marketing contact costs that drive spend.
  • Clean up duplicate records, retire unused workflows, audit installed apps that change data without anyone noticing, and keep consent and deliverability in good shape.
  • Understand exactly why the contact tier and seat count are set as they are, and be ready to justify both at renewal.
  • Define funnel stages and GTM metrics that carry the same meaning in every system, even though the two motions do not share vocabulary.
  • Enforce pipeline and data hygiene through automation instead of reminders to reps.
  • Put territory, segmentation, and ICP logic into the CRM rather than a slide deck, and own routing, SLAs, and lifecycle transitions.
  • Build lead and account scoring that you can explain, plus the quota and compensation tracking behind plan attainment.
  • Build enrichment and data waterfalls, signal-based plays using public and product data, and automated research and personalization at the top of the funnel.
  • Build lifecycle campaigns triggered by behavior, not by the calendar.
  • Instrument the student funnel end to end so you can see where applicants stall and act on it within a week.
  • Build and maintain landing pages, HubSpot CMS modules, and forms that support campaigns without creating a backlog.
  • Build and maintain API, webhook, and OAuth integrations between HubSpot, the product, and third-party services.
  • Design reliable data flows with validation, monitoring, consent handling, access controls, and clear recovery from failures.
  • Work with the data team so HubSpot data lands clean and reportable in Snowflake and can be trusted by the AI analytics agents teams query in Slack.
  • Find where AI can take real work off the revenue org, such as enrichment and research agents, deal desk assistants, and self-serve reporting, and build it.
  • Run AI automation within existing production controls: scoped credentials, audit trails, and kill switches. The approach is connective tissue, not foundation models.
  • Use AI-assisted development where it improves quality and speed, and judge where it does not.
  • Plan and deliver material changes to systems people sell on daily, such as pipeline restructures, property migrations, workflow retirements, and new required fields, without breaking historical reporting or the team's trust.
  • Announce changes before they ship, bring reps and CSMs along, and leave no silent breakage.
  • Keep a clear record of what changed, when, why, and who approved it.
  • Turn business goals into working systems with Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, Finance, Data, and Engineering.
  • Explain technical tradeoffs, options, and risks in plain language to non-technical colleagues.
  • Set expectations and decline some requests, giving a reason people accept.
  • Own work from discovery and design through build, testing, launch, and post-launch support.
  • Split work into clear milestones, report progress and risk honestly, and ship reliable increments on time.
  • Set priorities firmly, since demand will always exceed capacity.
  • Document system architecture, CRM configuration, integration behavior, and runbooks for both technical and business readers.
  • Train and support internal teams so they can use, maintain, and troubleshoot what you deliver.
  • Avoid becoming a single point of failure. Nothing you own should be a black box. Over time, help decide which parts of the stack should move to version control and which would be overkill.
  • Measure and raise conversion across both funnels, including bottlenecks inside the company's own workflows.
  • Use analytics, monitoring, and production diagnostics to catch regressions before reps or applicants do.
  • Measure the impact of what you build and be candid about what did not work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent practical experience. The work counts for more than the credential.
  • 5+ years in revenue operations, marketing operations, GTM engineering, or an analytics role embedded in revenue, including 2+ years hands-on in HubSpot.
  • Experience building revenue infrastructure from scratch.
  • Experience in a regulated industry such as financial services, healthcare, or insurance, where consumer data, consent, retention, and access controls carry real rules that you designed around.
  • A record of making major CRM changes on a live revenue team without breaking its reporting.
  • Deep, hands-on HubSpot skills: custom objects and properties, workflows and custom code actions, forms, CMS modules, the CRM and Marketing APIs, complex associations, and marketing contact economics. You have repaired an instance someone else broke.
  • SQL fluency and the ability to reason about data models, not just run reports.
  • Working knowledge of REST APIs, OAuth, webhooks, data mapping, and reliable sync between systems, including what happens when a sync fails.
  • Enough scripting to automate work instead of repeating it. How quickly you learn matters more than what you already know, and the team will help close any gaps.
  • Warehouse and BI experience with Snowflake, dbt, or similar is a strong plus.
  • Hands-on applied LLM tooling for enrichment, scoring, research, or GTM analytics, with a clear view of where it works and where it does not, is a strong plus.
  • Lending, fintech, or another high-volume consumer funnel.
  • Experience with both consumer funnel work and enterprise B2B pipelines, which is rare and especially valuable here.
  • Experience at multi-product or multi-motion companies where one revenue vocabulary did not fit the whole business.
