Description

The Cloud Applications team builds and runs key parts of the company Cloud customer experience, including Namespaces, Audit Logs and Export.

Namespaces are the main isolation unit in the company Cloud. They provide security boundaries, workflow management, unique identifiers and dedicated gRPC endpoints. Audit Logs and Export give customers dependable access to the operational and compliance data they rely on.

This is a hands-on role for someone eager to learn these systems and help improve their scalability, reliability and developer experience. You will work with senior engineers, product managers and partner teams to design, build and operate backend services and data pipelines, and grow your distributed-systems skills along the way.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, test and release well-scoped features and improvements for the company Cloud, with help from teammates.
  • Build and enhance services for namespace provisioning, configuration, scaling and reliability.
  • Create data pipelines that handle large volumes of usage and operational data from many tenants.
  • Weigh engineering tradeoffs with guidance, including data freshness, query cost, tenant isolation, reliability and operational complexity.
  • Make services easier to operate through tests, instrumentation, dashboards, alerts, runbooks and documentation.
  • Take part in code reviews, design discussions, incident response and production debugging.
  • Work with engineering, product and customer-facing teams to clarify requirements and deliver scoped projects safely.
  • Improve developer and customer experience through automation, better tooling and incremental product changes.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of work experience.
  • Experience with Go.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, Redshift, Kinesis and Firehose.
  • Experience with S3, Google Cloud Storage, Azure Blob Storage or other object storage systems.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience with on-call rotations, incident investigation or production observability.
  • Familiarity with the company concepts, or a strong interest in learning the platform.
  • You will need solid computer science fundamentals, including data structures, basic concurrency, testing and debugging.
  • You will need working knowledge of distributed-systems concepts such as reliability, fault tolerance, consistency, scaling and failure handling.
  • You will need experience with databases, data pipelines, messaging systems or object storage.
  • You will need to take a scoped problem, split it into smaller tasks, build the solution end to end and act on feedback.
  • You will need an operational mindset, with familiarity in logging, metrics, tracing, deployment and production troubleshooting.
  • You will need to communicate progress, risks and technical tradeoffs clearly across teams.
  • You will need a commitment to correctness and maintainability, and to leaving systems better than you found them.
  • Experience building and running production backend systems in a cloud environment.
  • Proficiency in Go or another suitable backend or systems language, with the ability to get up to speed in an existing codebase.
  • Primary language: Go. Data storage: PostgreSQL, Redshift, S3, Google Cloud Storage, Azure Blob Storage and ClickHouse. Data processing: Kinesis and Firehose. Infrastructure: Kubernetes. Core framework: the company.
  • You do not need experience with every tool in the stack. The team values strong engineering fundamentals and the ability to learn unfamiliar systems.
