Description

You would join the Foundations team in the company's talent business. The team builds the core services that every talent domain team relies on.

Foundations covers user management and single sign-on, notifications, data flows with employers, schools and partners, and the shared platform patterns beneath them.

The company is a venture-backed startup that has just closed its Series B and is moving into a new growth phase.

The company runs institutionally funded gap loan programs with colleges, so students who lack funds can stay enrolled and finish their degrees.

Its talent side connects healthcare employers with diverse candidates and uses student loan repayment as a recruiting and retention tool.

Day to day you report to the Tech Lead, Foundations, and work with teammates, product partners and engineers on other domain teams.

Engineers here own the code they write and the infrastructure it runs on. The team wants someone who enjoys building things other engineers depend on and who can grow quickly.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain features in Talent's shared services, covering user management, authentication and SSO, role-based access control, and notifications across email, in-app and other channels.
  • Build and run data exchange integrations and APIs with employers, schools and partner systems, with clear contracts, error handling and monitoring.
  • Write reusable services, libraries and documentation that other teams can adopt easily, and respond to their feedback and questions.
  • Write clean, tested, maintainable code across front end and back end, and take part in code reviews and technical design discussions.
  • Use AI-assisted techniques such as code generation, test writing, refactoring and documentation to ship better software faster.
  • Work with Product, QA, Security and Compliance to turn identity, access and data handling requirements into working software.
  • Improve CI/CD pipelines, test coverage and observability for the services Foundations owns, and join the on-call rotation.
  • Help build a culture of continuous learning and high standards, with direct, low-ego feedback.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally at a SaaS startup or similar setting, including owning features end to end.
  • Solid Python skills with a framework such as Django, Flask or FastAPI, plus TypeScript or JavaScript with React or Next.js, and working knowledge of PostgreSQL.
  • Experience building and consuming APIs, and a grasp of authentication and authorization basics such as sessions, tokens, OAuth and role-based permissions.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, cloud infrastructure on AWS or Google Cloud, and confidence debugging production issues using logs and monitoring.
  • You use coding tools such as Cursor, Copilot or Claude as a real productivity multiplier, well beyond autocomplete.
  • Clear written and spoken communication, including documentation that other engineers want to read.
  • A genuine interest in technology that widens access to education and economic mobility.
  • Experience with SSO (SAML, OIDC) or user provisioning such as SCIM.
  • Experience building notification or messaging systems, such as transactional email, templating and delivery tracking, or other event-driven systems.
  • Experience integrating with HRIS, ATS or other partner systems.
  • Experience working in a regulated environment such as fintech or financial services.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code, such as Terraform or similar.
