Description

You'll be a senior engineer who enjoys working out a customer's problem, designing a solution, and staying accountable for how it runs in production.

The role is hands-on and gives you a lot of ownership. You'll be free to drive work forward, working alongside colleagues who share designs, review code, and pair with you.

Partner banks want more control over how they fund international payments, settle with the company, and convert currency. The Cash Management team builds the products that give them that control and let more partners and their customers use the company's services.

Typical questions include how a bank can fix an exchange rate now and supply the funds later, or how it can send a payment first and settle afterward. The team builds the capabilities behind those choices so partners can manage cash around their business needs.

The team is small and growing, and it is building new products in a field with a lot to learn and shape. You'll have a real voice in how customer problems are solved, how systems are designed, and how engineering quality holds up as the team grows. The work mixes product development with building reliable services that move money between systems.

You'll work closely with product managers, partner banks, and engineers across the company who run the systems for accounts, incoming payments, and liquidity. Together you'll learn what partners need, agree how those systems connect, and turn complex requirements into usable products.

Responsibilities

  • Take solutions from problem to production. Work with product managers and engineers to understand partner needs, shape the approach, and design, build, test, and run backend services.
  • Make sound technical decisions and explain the tradeoffs, balancing delivery speed, reliability, and maintainability, even when information is incomplete.
  • Work across system boundaries with other teams to agree clear interfaces and see how changes affect the full payment journey.
  • Improve the systems you run by strengthening testing and observability, investigating production issues, and applying what you learn to make services more dependable.
  • Support the team by contributing to several workstreams, sharing domain knowledge, and helping other engineers grow through reviews, pairing, and mentoring.
  • The backend uses Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, and PostgreSQL. You'll build deeper knowledge of funding, settlement, and currency conversion and use it to guide product and engineering choices. As the team's scope grows, you may take on wider technical ownership and shape how the team builds.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience building large-scale distributed systems, or making significant contributions to them.
  • Strong backend engineering experience, including relational databases, event-driven systems, and working fluently in an object-oriented language.
  • A product mindset: you can explain the customer problems behind your work, why your solution matters, and how you judge whether it helps.
  • Ability to take ownership with a high degree of autonomy, keep moving through ambiguity, and bring in others when their expertise is needed.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, including explaining technical decisions, working well across teams, and helping colleagues succeed.
  • Curiosity about the business domain and a willingness to learn how partners use the products you build.
  • Useful extra experience: Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, or PostgreSQL.
  • Useful extra experience: payments, financial technology, funding, settlement, or foreign exchange.
  • Useful extra experience: using product metrics and data to understand customer behaviour and inform decisions.
  • You don't need every technology or banking skill already. If you have the core engineering experience, ownership, and curiosity described above, the team wants to hear from you.
