Senior KDB Developer

Description

The team is hiring a senior KDB+ developer for a front-office technology group that supports Fixed Income electronic and algorithmic trading in London.

You will work with traders, quantitative specialists and other technology teams to build and improve pricing, trading, hedging and risk management tools for Fixed Income products.

The KDB+ group is small and works closely together, delivering real-time analytics and trading features with quick feedback and frequent releases.

The role suits a senior engineer with deep KDB+ skills, strong analytical thinking and the ability to talk with business users, and it includes technical leadership and mentoring of more junior colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Meet traders and other stakeholders face to face to clarify business needs and turn them into workable technical solutions.
• Design, build, test and ship upgrades to Fixed Income algorithmic trading and risk management platforms.
• Build and run fast real-time KDB+ processes, schemas and interfaces.
• Create solutions for trade surveillance, compliance checks and oversight of trading algorithms.
• Where suitable, build monitoring and visual dashboards using Altair Panopticon.
• Run one-off statistical and quantitative studies of algorithm performance, market data and client activity.
• Keep KDB+ infrastructure and applications running smoothly, and improve and evolve them over time.
• Take part in release management, keeping controls strong and following governance standards.
• Advise junior developers and encourage good engineering habits across the team.
• Provide third-line support and expert input to production support and operations staff.

Requirements

• Essential: Substantial commercial experience building with KDB+ / q in a front-office or electronic trading setting.
• Essential: Solid grasp of software engineering practice, including design, testing and delivery.
• Essential: Experience building and supporting real-time data processing systems.
• Essential: Good working knowledge of UNIX/Linux.
• Essential: Sharp analytical, problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Essential: Clear communication and the ability to work effectively with traders and business stakeholders.
• Essential: Good understanding of Fixed Income products, electronic trading, market data or quantitative finance.
• Desirable: Experience with the TorQ framework.
• Desirable: Knowledge of qSpec, qUnit or similar automated testing frameworks.
• Desirable: Experience building dashboards in Altair Panopticon.
• Desirable: Exposure to governance, monitoring or compliance tooling for trading algorithms.
• Desirable: Past experience mentoring developers or leading technical initiatives.

Conditions

Permanent or contract, depending on the engagement.

Hybrid working with 3 days per week onsite.

Based in London.
