AI Engineering - Software Engineer Internships - Summer 2027 (Masters)

Description

This is an internship on the AI Engineering team, working as a full stack software development engineer intern for summer 2027.

You will help build and keep up software across every layer, from user interfaces through APIs and data stores to cloud infrastructure.

You will use AI coding assistants to move faster, while checking their output for correctness and security.

You will work closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to build solutions that hold up under load and grow over time.

Responsibilities

• Take features from design through to deployment, working on front-end (React, Angular, or Vue) and back-end (REST or GraphQL, microservices) code.
• Help shape system designs by weighing architectural trade-offs, defining data models and API contracts, and picking cloud-native and persistence approaches that fit the project.
• Write thorough tests, follow coding standards, and review code, including AI-generated code, for security, performance, and maintainability.
• Build, maintain, and run automated test suites that check functionality and catch defects early.
• Help maintain CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code, watch systems in production, and take part in incident response, including for AI-integrated components.
• Work with product managers, designers, and platform teams to scope and ship features, writing clear specs and explaining trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

• You are currently pursuing a Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, with a graduation date no earlier than May 2028.
• You can work full-time for a 12-week period, either May to August or June to September 2027.
• You have used AI in your work or study, such as AI-powered tools, workflow automation, AI-driven analysis, or thinking through how AI could affect your field.
• You have hands-on experience through coursework, research, projects, or internships with front-end frameworks (React, Angular, or Vue), back-end languages (Node.js, Python, Java, or Go), databases, REST or GraphQL APIs, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), and you are comfortable picking up new AI and ML tools.
• Preferred: You understand the trade-offs between consistency, availability, and performance, and you know distributed system patterns and API and database design.
• Preferred: You have written clean, secure, well-tested code and treat code review as a way to improve quality.
• Preferred: You use AI coding assistants such as Copilot, Cursor, or Codeium, and LLM APIs such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or open-weight models, to build features, and you judge AI-generated code carefully for correctness and security.
• Preferred: You can turn unclear requirements into clear technical plans and explain trade-offs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Conditions

The company hires in Santa Clara, CA, San Diego, CA, Kirkland, WA, West Palm Beach, FL, and other locations.

The work location for each intern is decided by the team's growth plans.

Work personas (flexible, remote, or in office) are assigned based on the type of work and the assigned location.

Benefits

• Base pay is $58.96 per hour for this location, plus equity when applicable, variable or incentive compensation, and benefits.
• Pay is a guideline and depends on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location. Pay is based on the geographic location of the role and may change.
• Sales positions generally include an On Target Earnings incentive structure.
