VP, Software Development - Delivery

Description

The company is a global media and entertainment business with three segments: Studios, Direct-to-Consumer, and TV Media. This role sits in its technology organization, which builds the platforms behind its news journalism and keeps them reliable during breaking news, live events, and on-demand viewing.

The Vice President of Engineering, Delivery is a senior technology leader who reports to the Chief Technology Officer and sits on the senior technology leadership team. You will shape how delivery works across the group, weighing speed, quality, reliability, and scale in a newsroom that never switches off.

This is a newly created position based in Ottawa. You will be the most senior executive on site, leading engineers who may sit outside your reporting line, and you will represent the company and the wider group in the local engineering community, look for ways to give back, and build interest in the work.

The Engineering Delivery group covers frontline editorial support, site reliability engineering, and technical program management, with the aim of keeping products resilient, scalable, and well delivered under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Set the engineering delivery strategy across the technology organization and make sure day-to-day execution matches the CTO's priorities.
• Own end-to-end delivery results across Editorial Support, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and Technical Program Management (TPM).
• Make sure frontline Editorial Support teams give newsroom and editorial staff quick, reliable technical help on the company's systems.
• Lead SRE teams that run production environments, handle incidents, and own reliability, operational excellence, and developer experience.
• Oversee TPM teams that coordinate delivery of complex products and features across engineering.
• Work with central Test Engineering and QA teams to build quality at scale through testing strategy, automation, and release readiness.
• Create and improve delivery frameworks, metrics, and governance that make delivery more predictable, transparent, and accountable.
• Build a culture of operational excellence, covering production readiness, learning after incidents, and continuous improvement.
• Work with Product, Editorial, Design, Data, and Commercial leaders so delivery plans support business and journalistic goals.
• Explain delivery status, risks, and trade-offs to executives clearly, backed by data.
• Hire, grow, and keep senior engineering leaders, and build a diverse, inclusive, high-performing organization.

Requirements

• Extensive experience leading large, complex engineering organizations with several senior leaders.
• A proven record of owning end-to-end delivery for high-impact, business-critical technology initiatives.
• A strong background in engineering delivery and operational excellence, including scaling teams in fast-paced settings.
• Experience working effectively with product, editorial, and business stakeholders in highly matrixed organizations.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to turn complex technical and operational topics into clear points for executives.
• Experience leading geographically spread teams and managing major organizational change.
• Experience with Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, and modern cloud-native operating models.
• You lead by example and build trust in every interaction.
• Bonus: experience in digital media, news, streaming, or live content platforms.
• Bonus: familiarity with live and on-demand video workflows and media supply chains.
• Bonus: exposure to large-scale technical program management or portfolio delivery.
• Bonus: comfort representing technology delivery to senior executives and external partners.

Conditions

Based in Ottawa, with on-site presence for the engineers you lead.

Base pay is listed as a hiring salary range of $255,500.00 - $408,800.00 per year.

Actual pay depends on factors such as location, external market data, internal equity, skills, experience, training, education, and performance.
