Engineering Manager (m/f/d)

Description

The company is Europe's largest e-pharmacy and runs cloud-native, microservice-based applications. This role leads several cross-functional engineering teams that build customer-facing products and internal platforms.

Teams own their services end to end under a "you build it, you run it" approach and use automation, observability and data to keep improving.

You will work closely with Product and business stakeholders to shape solutions that create value for customers and the business.

Responsibilities

• Lead, hire, coach and develop several engineering teams, building an inclusive, psychologically safe culture where people take ownership, are accountable and keep improving.
• Set a clear engineering agenda based on each team's strengths, challenges and opportunities.
• Work with Product Managers to set priorities, balancing customer value, business needs, delivery commitments and technical quality.
• Make priorities and ownership clear, manage risks early, communicate them openly and make sure commitments are met.
• Support engineers with regular feedback, career development, mentoring and performance management.
• Give technical direction, help teams fix root causes and steer them toward simple, maintainable solutions, without working as an individual contributor.
• Work with engineering leaders and stakeholders, resolve conflicts constructively and drive initiatives across teams.
• Use data and measurable outcomes to improve delivery, reliability, cost efficiency, team effectiveness and customer impact.

Requirements

• You have led several engineering teams in a product-oriented setting.
• You have a proven record of setting direction, driving delivery and reaching measurable results.
• You enjoy coaching and mentoring engineers and helping them grow.
• You have enough technical depth to recognise good work, challenge it constructively and guide teams to sound decisions.
• You lead in a proactive, structured way and take strong ownership of outcomes.
• You communicate well and build trust and productive partnerships across Engineering, Product, Design, Data and Business.
• You are familiar with cloud-native architectures, modern software engineering practices and agile product development.
• Experience in e-commerce is a plus but not required.

The role is based in the company's office setup as described for the position; remote work arrangements depend on whether the job requires office presence.
