The company is a strategic communications and marketing company serving clients in a complicated, fragmented media environment. Its work runs from high-level strategic counsel to hands-on execution, and it brings together over 700 people with backgrounds in consumer and lifestyle, technology, nonprofit and philanthropy, real estate, sports, travel, hospitality and more. The company is made up of nine firms: BerlinRosen, Civitas Public Affairs Group, Derris, Glen Echo Group, Inkhouse, M18, Message Lab, Onward and Small Girls PR. It also runs Brightmode, a talent acquisition firm for communications professionals, and Versus Media Group, a strategy-first political media team. More information is at the company's site.

The company wants applicants of all backgrounds and abilities. It is working to build a diverse staff and says its success depends on hiring and keeping creative professionals with varied experience. Staff have room to advance and are supported in their development.

This is a senior strategy role for someone who knows how creators, celebrities, advocates, experts, community leaders and other trusted voices shape public opinion, build credibility and prompt action.

The role leads influencer strategy across the Impact & Philanthropy and Public Affairs practices. Those teams work with foundations, nonprofits, advocacy groups, mission-driven institutions and clients in healthcare, technology, education, infrastructure, land use and economic development on issues that affect communities, industries and public debate. Teams combine communications, advocacy, media relations, digital, research, creative, paid media and influence work into integrated campaigns.

Responsibilities

  • Set the influencer marketing strategy for both practices, building integrated programs that match the right audiences with the right messengers, messages and moments.
  • Lead influencer strategy across Public Affairs and Impact & Philanthropy, and support clients in consumer, corporate, technology and other sectors when opportunities come up, with the goal of building awareness, trust, engagement and action.
  • Create culturally relevant programs that turn complex policy, social and philanthropic issues into stories that resonate with priority audiences.
  • Build networks of influence among creators, advocates, experts, community leaders and cultural figures who can credibly move conversations on key issues.
  • Advise senior clients on audience and messenger choices, creator partnerships, cultural moments, reputation and emerging opportunities.
  • Run influencer programs end to end, from strategy through execution and measurement, including finding and vetting talent, setting up partnerships, and handling content and amplification.
  • Work across Public Affairs, Impact & Philanthropy and other client groups with PR, digital, research, creative and paid media colleagues, mentor team members, and support new business.
  • Serve as a senior advisor to clients and work closely with account teams.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience leading influencer, creator, advocacy, social impact, public affairs or integrated communications programs across several client sectors, including consumer, corporate, technology, healthcare and others.
  • A track record of building influence strategies around complex issues, causes, policy, advocacy or mission-driven work.
  • A deep understanding of the current influence ecosystem, including creators, advocates, experts, community leaders and other trusted voices.
  • A strong grasp of how culture, public opinion and information spread across social and digital platforms.
  • Experience managing influencer budgets and talent negotiations and contracts, including scoping, fee structures and deliverables, while keeping programs aligned with client goals and financial expectations.
  • Sound judgment on sensitive issues, reputational risk and messenger credibility, and the confidence to advise senior clients.
  • Experience leading integrated programs and developing teams, while balancing strategic thinking with hands-on work across several clients and priorities.
  • Experience shaping influencer and creator strategies for pitches and proposals and finding ways to grow influencer capabilities for current and prospective clients.
