(USA) Principal, Software Engineer

Description

The team sets data standards, keeps data compliant with policy, and builds partnerships that help the business use its data well. It builds data pipelines and self-service tools on cloud-native architecture, aiming for platforms that scale and stay reliable.

This principal role leads design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, including cloud-native architectures and AI-enhanced applications. You will guide the full software development lifecycle across several teams, with a focus on high availability, reliability, and performance. The work involves technical leadership, mentoring, and working with cross-functional stakeholders to tie engineering work to business goals. The solutions serve millions of customers and associates.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and deploy highly scalable solutions that reach millions of customers.
• Develop and tune Storm and Spark pipelines, APIs, and distributed architectures that process TB- and PB-scale datasets.
• Build fast, resilient services that handle millions of requests per day.
• Lead technical direction and engineering practice, and bring modern and open-source technologies into use.
• Work with Product, Business, and Engineering to set priorities, run proofs of concept, and ship scalable features.
• Investigate production and business issues, run root cause analysis, and put preventive fixes in place.
• Protect software quality, security, scalability, and reliability through strict development and testing.
• Work with other teams to set best practices, write documentation, and meet client requirements.
• Mentor and coach engineers on sound engineering habits.

Requirements

• Extensive experience leading platform engineering work that delivers scalable, cloud-native architectures and reusable tooling.
• Solid grasp of computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and design patterns.
• Experience running Elasticsearch clusters, covering indexing, querying, and performance tuning.
• Working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases, such as Cassandra, BigQuery, Databricks, Cosmos, and Druid.
• Hands-on experience building microservices and REST services in Java with Spring Boot.
• Experience leading teams through large-scale distributed systems and event-driven architectures.
• Experience with cloud architecture, microservices architecture, and container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience building high-performance, scalable pipelines that extract, transform, and load Spark and big data.
• Minimum qualification, option 1: a bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related area, plus 5 years of experience in software engineering or a related area.
• Minimum qualification, option 2: 7 years of experience in software engineering or a related area.
• Preferred: a master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related area, plus 3 years of experience in software engineering or a related area.
• Preferred: knowledge of inclusive digital experiences, including Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, and accessibility best practices. Candidates who know the company's accessibility standards and guidelines for an inclusive culture are a good fit.

Conditions

Annual base salary range: $143,000.00 to $286,000.00.
