Description

The company is a diversified trading firm that has spent more than 3 decades combining technology and people to trade in markets worldwide. It trades its own capital and carries its own risk, and it values autonomy and the ability to move quickly on opportunities.

Based in Chicago, with offices across the U.S., Canada, Europe and Asia, the company trades Fixed Income, ETFs, Equities, FX, Commodities and Energy in all major global markets. It has also expanded into real estate, venture capital and cryptoassets.

The Global Trade Support team keeps critical support running for proprietary and third-party trading systems, along with the company's internal middle and back-office systems. The team serves trading groups in equities, fixed income and cryptoassets, handling application support in testing and production, software deployment and configuration, and system monitoring.

Responsibilities

  • Help build strong production support, reliable software deployment and configuration processes, and proactive monitoring that catches problems early, cuts downtime and speeds recovery from incidents.
  • Keep trading systems as available as possible so the team does not miss key trading opportunities.
  • Support production systems for trading groups across asset classes and regions, running mostly on Linux with some Windows across a multi-platform environment.
  • Build in-house process automation and monitoring tools, and use third-party technology where it fits.
  • Investigate production incidents caused by internal software or systems, or by outside factors such as markets, data feeds and telecom lines.
  • Automate configuration and rollout steps to cut manual errors and keep change management clean.
  • Maintain core market connectivity and communicate with exchanges about order activity, connectivity and other technical issues.
  • Work with traders, DBAs, developers, back office, QA, infrastructure, technical support, business development and management teams worldwide.
  • Help end users and developers use core trading and back-office systems correctly and efficiently.
  • Write documentation covering standard procedures, troubleshooting cases and system architecture.
  • Coordinate with other global support teams to keep support continuous and consistent across a 24x7 operation.

Requirements

  • Strong troubleshooting ability, including working through problems with no predefined runbook.
  • Prior experience supporting high performance applications, including process monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Prior experience supporting equities or equity options trading.
  • Prior experience with FIX protocol and other exchange protocols.
  • Script development experience (optional, a plus).
  • SQL skills covering queries, updates, table creation and basic database maintenance.
  • Experience supporting Linux and Windows platforms in a large-scale production environment.
  • Experience supporting electronic trading systems. Prior work at a proprietary trading firm is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of network communications, including multicast networking.
  • A B.S. in Computer Science or an equivalent degree.
  • Self-motivated and curious, with a steady drive to improve production support.
  • A strong sense of ownership and accountability, along with reliability and follow-through.
  • Composure under pressure and tight deadlines, and the ability to multitask and switch context efficiently.
  • Strong organizational skills to plan and prioritize work well.
  • Clear, concise communication, written and verbal, with people of many different styles.
  • The ability to quickly apply prior context to troubleshooting and communication.
