Description

The company builds and runs software products, and this role sits between the development and operations teams, working with the company product teams to fold DevOps practices into agile delivery.

You will be a hands-on senior engineer focused on building, automating and running cloud-native platforms that make systems more reliable, faster and easier to maintain. You will support microservices, containerised workloads and cloud-native architectures.

This is not a people management role. You will mentor other engineers through code reviews, design discussions and knowledge sharing, and push for engineering rigour and infrastructure managed as code.

Responsibilities

  • Design and automate secure, scalable cloud infrastructure on Azure and AWS using Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Ansible and Jenkins, applying software engineering practices like modular design, version control and automated tests.
  • Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD pipelines, and contribute reusable modules, templates and patterns that make delivery more consistent across teams.
  • Design and implement containerised and serverless compute platforms, including AKS, EKS, Docker and Azure Functions, prioritising scalability, maintainability and performance.
  • Treat CI/CD pipelines as products, with strong test coverage, artifact management, promotion workflows and deployment automation across several environments.
  • Support and evolve cloud-native architectures using abstraction, decoupling, fault isolation and observability.
  • Set up observability with metrics, logs and traces so problems are found early and root causes are quicker to pin down.
  • Make sure infrastructure and automation meet enterprise DevOps, security and compliance standards, and take part in architecture reviews and governance.
  • Evaluate and prototype new tools, judging their value, performance and fit with existing systems.
  • Apply SRE practices, including SLIs and SLOs, error budgets, capacity planning and incident response, to improve reliability and cut manual operational work.
  • Deploy, run and support business-critical applications with high availability, fault tolerance and good performance.
  • Help modernise legacy platforms through re-architecture and cloud-native transformation.
  • Find engineering inefficiencies and fix them by proposing and building automation and architecture improvements.
  • Take part in blameless post-incident reviews and help define long-term corrective actions.
  • Join on-call rotations, reduce alert noise and automate remediation where you can.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science or a related field. A master's degree is preferred.
  • 5+ years in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, release engineering or a related role, with solid hands-on software engineering experience.
  • Strong software development background in at least one of Python,.NET or Java.
  • Proven experience with both Azure and AWS cloud platforms.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell and Bash scripting.
  • Solid grasp of core Azure and AWS services across PaaS, IaaS and SaaS.
  • Strong experience with source control and automation, including Git.
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Experience building and running CI/CD pipelines with Azure DevOps, Jenkins or similar tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with close attention to detail and operational excellence.
  • Able to explain technical concepts clearly to engineers and to non-engineering stakeholders.
  • Clear commitment to DevOps culture: continuous integration, automated testing, deployment automation and owning systems across their full lifecycle.
  • Experience building or supporting observability platforms and setting operational best practices.
  • Experience troubleshooting and automating diagnostics on both Linux and Windows.
  • Candidates must take part in interviews without AI tools or outside prompts. Virtual backgrounds must be removed, and use of AI-generated or third-party help during interviews is grounds for disqualification.
  • You may be asked to attend an onsite interview at a the company office.
