  • Each day, monitor hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, review system and application logs, and confirm scheduled jobs such as backups finish.
  • Run regular security monitoring to spot possible intrusions.
  • Run daily backups, confirm required file systems and data are saved to the right media, create recovery tapes or disks, and recycle and send media off site when needed.
  • Archive and purge files regularly as needed.
  • Create, change and delete user accounts on request.
  • Provide Tier III and other support on request, investigate issues, repair hardware or software failures, and keep affected teams informed.
  • Apply OS patches and upgrades regularly, upgrade admin tools, and add or configure services as needed.
  • Deploy and manage Jira, Git, LDAP, Jenkins and VMware environments.
  • Upgrade system software that supports infrastructure or asset management applications as projects require.
  • Keep operational and configuration procedures up to date.
  • Tune performance, add hardware, optimize resources, and configure CPU, memory and disk partitions as required.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • A very strong level of skill in VMware administration and management, plus Jenkins, Git and DevOps tool administration.
  • 7+ years of Linux system administration, including shell scripting, cron jobs, log analysis, user and group management, iptables configuration and mail services.
  • CompTIA Security+ (SY0-301) or another DoD 8570.1 Workplace Improvement Plan IAT Level II compliant certification, or equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with web technologies such as reverse proxies, SSL certificate setup, three-tier and service-oriented architecture, enterprise service buses, HTTP, and browser differences.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to move servers between the main data center, colocation sites and labs, and to install new hardware or migrate servers, including rack and stack.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently with little direction.
