Description

The company builds systems for missile defense and space, and this team handles software and engineering for the Missile Defense Integration business unit in Huntsville, Alabama.

This is a dual role: about 80% hands-on systems engineering and about 20% managing a section of 12 to 18 engineers.

The role is based in Huntsville, AL, and requires an active Secret clearance to start.

The company describes itself as pioneering and looking for people with bold ideas and a drive to tackle problems others call impossible.

The company's engineering teams deliver solutions for sustaining and modernizing products for customers.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a group of 12 to 18 engineers on the GWS GFC program: set achievable goals, run performance reviews, guide career development, and coach and mentor to lift performance.
  • Pass direction from upper management and the organization down to your team, keep information moving, and resolve conflicts.
  • Support engineering initiatives across the organization.
  • Develop, improve, and evaluate algorithms for the GMD Weapon System Fire Control product, measuring how well they perform within the GFC software.
  • Build, change, and maintain software using engineering best practices and standards.
  • Take part across the full software lifecycle: requirements, modeling and design, development, unit testing, integration, and formal system testing.
  • Solve complex software and integration problems using your technical expertise.
  • Set the direction for software engineering practice as a thought leader.
  • Help the software engineering department manager review proposals, white papers, and new business initiatives.

Requirements

  • Hold a current technical performance role.
  • Hold a B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Math, Physics, or an equivalent STEM field.
  • Have at least 5 years of direct, relevant technical experience with a B.S., or at least 3 years with an M.S.
  • Be recent and highly proficient in MATLAB and Python.
  • Have a proven record of developing, prototyping, and evaluating complex algorithms.
  • Have a deep background in mathematics and physics, including linear algebra, statistics, astrodynamics or orbital mechanics, and RF propagation. This may come from coursework or work experience.
  • Be fluent in every stage of the formal software lifecycle, from requirements through integration to formal testing.
  • Want to contribute technically as well as manage people.
  • Work well in a collaborative team, in person, in a closed area.
  • Hold an active Secret clearance.
  • Understand agile principles well.

Conditions

Based in Huntsville, AL, working in person in a closed-area environment.
