Systems Engineer

Description

The company has supported cyber research, development, test and evaluation work since 2006, and this role supports the team's operations in Quantico, VA.

The position is a Senior Systems Engineer role with a focus on Linux-based systems and Splunk. Experience with other operating systems and platforms is a plus but not required.

Candidates must hold an active Top Secret clearance. A CI poly will be carried out after hire.

Responsibilities

• Support the enterprise virtualized environment through hands-on engineering, covering Windows and Linux workstations and server-based services, plus the deployment and upkeep of systems used by customers.
• Maintain Splunk with Enterprise Security so it stays current and healthy, checking data inputs and building and updating dashboards. This is preferred but not required.
• Run Active Directory/LDAP, DNS, Certificate Authority, Smart Card/PIV, Single Sign On and other enterprise services.
• Help shape key project decisions, including success criteria for requirements, design, testing and delivery.
• Keep key program stakeholders informed on progress and suggest improvements to the customer's network and systems.
• Troubleshoot and solve problems in deployed systems.
• Plan, design, build and recommend upgrades to existing systems and new systems scheduled for development.
• Handle patch management and backups across deployed systems.
• Act as the main point of contact for creating, recommending, implementing and testing disaster recovery plans.
• Mentor junior staff so they can proactively diagnose and resolve complex problems.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Top Secret clearance with a CI poly requirement after hire.
• 6+ years of related experience.
• Hands-on experience with Windows Server and virtualization platforms such as VMware, Proxmox, KVM and Xen.
• Hands-on Windows engineering, including design, build and troubleshooting.
• Experience applying and working with Windows Group Policy Objects (GPOs) and Windows domain structures.
• Experience with DNS, DHCP and Certificate Authorities.
• Experience administering Linux in an enterprise and working hands-on with Linux operating systems.
• Experience with systems integration and troubleshooting.
• Experience with build and configuration management, including patch management.
• Experience implementing DISA STIGs.
• Knowledge of or familiarity with DevSecOps.
• Familiarity with cloud technologies such as AWS, Azure and GCP.
• Creative problem solving.
• Self-motivated, able to stay on task, and a strong communicator.
• Preferred: hands-on VMware and Proxmox engineering, covering design, build and troubleshooting.
• Preferred: interest in assigning and tracking tasks across multiple engineers.

A Top Secret clearance is required, and a CI poly will be administered after hire. Candidates without a minimum Top Secret clearance should not apply.
