Description

The company is building large, autonomous swarming unmanned aircraft for operations at scale in contested airspace. It is moving quickly toward its first aircraft designed for swarming, along with command and control software that coordinates swarms of thousands of mixed autonomous assets.

The team has founded and exited several startups, closed defense deals worth billions of dollars, and designed and built 30+ novel aircraft. Members bring aerospace experience from Scaled Composites, Airbus, Archer Aviation, Blue Origin and Boom Supersonic.

The aircraft operate at the edge of what is possible in non-segregated airspace, with a high level of automation. This role focuses on the software that keeps them reliable and robust.

Responsibilities

  • Set and enforce software standards, processes and development methods
  • Keep the software system architecture current and improve it over time
  • Turn functional breakdowns of aircraft subsystems into software requirements
  • Specify clean interfaces so software components work together
  • Partner with propulsion, avionics and flight control design engineers
  • Create and maintain verification records that trace back to requirements
  • Take part in design reviews, weighing performance, risk, schedule and complexity when choosing architecture
  • Support hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop integration testing, investigating and resolving anomalies
  • Work with ground and flight test teams on software verification plans
  • Find, log and reduce technical risk across the program lifecycle, raising issues with data-backed recommendations
  • Help prepare airworthiness and flight authorization documentation

Requirements

  • 7+ years of systems engineering experience focused on software, on aerospace, defense or UAS platforms
  • Solid grounding in systems engineering principles and practice
  • Skill in writing requirements that are clear, verifiable and testable, using accepted industry patterns
  • Hands-on use of modern requirements tools such as Jama, Polarion or JIRA
  • Proven software development and verification work on civil or military aircraft
  • Experience with formal verification and validation methods such as DO-333
  • Experience with civil aviation software standards such as DO-178 and DO-254
  • Experience with the software side of military safety standards and handbooks such as MIL-STD-882 and JSSSEH
  • Background integrating flight control, avionics or propulsion subsystems
  • Experience with ARP4754 and ARP4761
  • Exposure to defense programs, military airworthiness or flight authorization, including MIL-HDBK-516
  • Ability to obtain the US Government clearance required
  • Active security clearance
