Description

Alfa Laval´s Business Unit Brazed & Fusion-bonded Heat Exchangers is looking for a Software Developer – R&D Digitalization.

Every day, we get opportunities to make a positive impact – on our colleagues, partners, customers and society. Together, we’re pioneering the solutions of the future and unlocking the full potential of precious resources. Trusted to act on initiative, we challenge conventional thinking to develop world-leading technologies that inspire progress in vital areas, including energy, food, water and shipping. As we push forward, the innovative, open spirit that fuels our 140-year-old start-up culture and rapid growth also drives our personal growth. So, as we shape a more resourceful, less wasteful world, we build our careers too.

About the role

At Business Unit Brazed & Fusion-bonded Heat Exchangers (BU BFB), our R&D team is committed to developing heat exchangers that are more efficient, higher-performing and predictable. As digitalization becomes increasingly important to our work, we are establishing a new function dedicated to digital solutions and data infrastructure. This is a unique opportunity to become our first dedicated software hire and help shape the function from the ground up.

Reporting to the R&D Manager, you will work closely with R&D engineers based in Sweden and Italy, turning data and digital technology into smarter, more effective engineering solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Build, test, and deploy internal tools and infrastructure around the software we use to calculate heat exchanger performance.
  • Design data models and pipelines that give R&D reliable, well-structured data, laying the foundation for future machine learning work.
  • Work closely with engineers to understand their workflows, gather feedback, and keep improving the tools.
  • Own the test frameworks and improve existing algorithms and applications.
  • Collaborate with our IT department, which supports hosting, security, and deployment.
  • In your first year, you might: make our performance calculations into tested, version-controlled software that R&D engineers in both locations can use and rely on.
  • You will be based in Lund and will report to the head of R&D BU BFB.
  • What You Know
  • Solid software engineering experience, including clean writing, maintainable code, testing and version control.
  • Strong development skills in C++, .NET and SQL.
  • Proficiency in Python.
  • Experience with Azure, CI/CD in Azure DevOps and cloud deployments.
  • Knowledge of data modelling and relational databases.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
  • It Would Be an Advantage If You Have
  • Experience or an interest in machine learning.
  • Knowledge of Python packaging and distribution.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment.
  • Strong interest in engineering, technology, or physical products.

Requirements

  • You are a collaborative and open-minded team player who listens actively, supports colleagues, and enjoys sharing knowledge. You communicate clearly, take ownership of your work, and are a hands-on problem solver who can quickly identify practical solutions.
  • You have experience developing data-driven tools that people use in their day-to-day work. You actively use AI tools to build solutions, explore new ideas, and challenge your own thinking.
  • Flexible and adaptable, you are comfortable taking initiative and working independently. You enjoy a varied role with diverse responsibilities and are motivated by making a meaningful contribution to both the team and the wider business

Benefits

  • We offer a challenging and rewarding role in an open, friendly environment where collaboration, learning, and shared success are highly valued. You'll develop software closely connected to both our physical products and the people who create them. Your solutions will support R&D engineers with performance calculations, data management, and turning research insights into improved products. This is an opportunity to have a genuine impact on how we digitalize R&D, including helping shape our technology stack. We focus on delivering solutions that are efficient, practical, and easy to use, while giving you the freedom to decide how best to achieve those goals.
